Does it matter where I buy Apple products?

I have the urge to splash out on an iMac and Macbook Air to replace my old PC and Black Macbook (I did after all, buy my wife an iPad so fair's fair :D).

Question is, do I have to slog into the center of town to the Apple store or can I just go to an out of town retail store and still be able to take it to an Apple store if it goes wrong?

I bought my iPad from Comet and as far as I'm aware, if it goes wrong I can go to an Apple store if I wish.

Or why drag your self anywhere, just buy it on-line from the Apple site and get delivery free.

Instant gratification :D

In the end I got the iMac from John Lewis as they have a 2yr warranty and the Macbook from Apple as JL didn't have them in stock.

Thanks for the answers folks :)

Apple warranty is awesome I bought a macbook pro in 2007 in Florida. It went faulty last year and even though it was 3 years out of warranty they still fixed it for me FOC. They said the serial number was in a range that had a lot of faults associated with it so gave me a £670 logic board repair for free.

Wow that is good!!

What I would be wary of buying for PC world etc is that you are getting the same as you would be from Apple, as whenever there is an update to a product Apple sell you the new version, other stores can have the old version & still be selling it at the same price.

Find a student with an NUS card, and get the discount (its a lot). The 3 year applecare comes in at £50 ish.

Personally Ive bought all my Apple gear (Macpook pro and IMac) from the Apple store , just because their service is second to none, pleasant, know what they are taking about, know the products.

Don't forget that if you would like to buy apple one-2-one training (£72 for unlimited sessions for 12 months) you can only do that if you bought the equipment in an Apple Retail store, and with a lot of talking when you bought it from Apple online and then buy it within 2 weeks in store :)
