Does it ever end?

The police are investigating links to a paedophile ring with links to government.
Actually, the police is "looking into claims there was a paedophile ring with links to government"

Not knowing anything of detail about that claim or the investigation into it, I'll not comment on how surprised or otherwise I may be, rather wait until there's an outcome to the investigation.

This just in..........

ST4 in "I'm disgusted / outraged / offended" shocker!

:runaway:

It will be curious to see how this pans out. After the operation Yewtree which yielded quite a few convictions. I would love to know who this involves.

It's very (very) rare that I watch the news, but I caught the first 10 mins of the 1pm on the Beeb today.

I was shocked, genuinely shocked.

One man has made some pretty terrifying allegations. They are apparently so "strong" that we can't be told what they are - though the interviewer coaxed him through some answers (suggesting for example out of the blue that some "military" may have been involved). Rightly and properly these allegations are being investigated though the BBC mumbled that "we can't even corroborate them". And then with that tiny hint of a disclaimer they have spun the story into a headline involving "possible murder - or maybe manslaughter". On the say so of one person, whose story hasn't yet been corroborated and whose allegations we aren't even allowed to hear.

These are serious things. They need looking into properly. They don't need sensationalising into a made up news story.

Which is kind of why I don't watch the news.....

Saves a lot of typing.

Right, I have merged todays outrage threads, feel free to comment on either article if you wish, but can I also remind everyone that by adding even funny posts, its acting as encouragement, so if you are fed up of these threads, don't bother commenting anymore or creating faux outrage threads either, it is probably time we all moved on and left Steve to it. Steve, any more threads on these subjects in the next day or two will also be merged, please be aware of that and save us the trouble.

On a serious note...

IF there is any truth in these allegations, what chance is there that there will actually be any evidence for the police to find?
Peter Wanless has now handed his report in to the Home Secretary, according to Wanless David Cameron then misrepresented the contents and claimed that it said that he found that there was no paedophile ring.
I listened to Wanless on radio 4, he was very clear that he found no evidence either way, but as he was only given 6 weeks in which to go through the entire home office archive, he is far from sure that there is nothing to find. In the time available, and with very limited resources, he found no evidence either way.

He said that all the files were paper ones and he could only look at the ones that had promising titles (in the time available) but the file titles were often very unhelpful, as were the dates on the files.
