Does Google hold back after re-indexing?

Morning all.

So, my site has been re-written in HTML (was flash). The GoogleBot has visited - and it has munched happily at the new pages - I can see this from the google webmaster tools.

SEO wise nothing has changed - still pants. I can understand that this is the norm and it may take time. HOWEVER, if I search in Google (or Bing) using specifics, the search engines find my site, but the associated text that is displayed is from the old flash site.

So, does this mean that although the search engine knows about my new pages and content, it is holding back? What's the score?

It can often take up to 30 days or more for Google to re-index a site when it's updated.

Do you have a sitemap and does Google know about it - this can help a lot.

Apart from that you need to update your site regularly or it will drop back down Google.

Good point re sitemap. I did have one - but forgot to update. Now created a new one and submitted to google. Thanks.

I'm updating my site a fair amount via my blog (which is part of the site).

There's also more than one type of googlebot, some just do a quick visit to get links while others spend more time analysing the content, sounds like you've had the one, but not the other, just give it some time SEO is a long term game
 
Yes, they do visit quite regular but like everyone else has said it can take time for your site to be updated. It's quicker than it used to be as google a couple of months ago started using a different indexing system.

One thing to be very careful of - content. I went hell for leather last year to up my ratings and linked with everyman and his dog and got stuffed by google! I was dropped to around page 10! After removing the majority of the links (which when I looked further were themselves linked to link farms) and re-submitted my site it took around 6 weeks to get back to where I am - it cost my business!
 
When you do any kind of update it can take a while for Google to recognise changes. As others have mentioned there are some Google bots that crawl the web for links so if you look at your log files you will see bots hitting the site everyday but bots that cache your site visit less often. Can you see when your website was last cached?

Make sure the title of the web site is appropriate to the search for example if your searching for picture recognition software do not call the site title computer vision call it something like General Picture Recognition that is what I have always done and you should get the web-site near the top.
