does glass really make that much difference

Buuuuut....eventually you will have to stop upgrading lenses and get that sweet body with the higher ISO capabilities, faster FPS, better ergonomics, high 'cool factor', nicer handling,...:D

(someone had to argue for the body side of the "glass or lens argument")

True - when you finally have your 'dream-lens' suite all sorted, you'll have to buy a top-end body to complement it all...

Then eventually you'll have to find another set of excuses for why all your images are poo...

Does glass make a difference if your only taking web shots, 6x4 or A4 prints. I have 3 L lenses one being huge to lug around mounted on a 5D Mk II. Just ordered a pentax K7, sealed against weather with no lens. Contemplating sticking the kit lens zoom water resistant version on that I can quite happily snap away in the high street without anyone taking notice

Glass first - always buy the very best lenses you can afford.

Waiting until you can afford the lens?! Surely that is a cardinal sin in photography?! Glass is a purchase that circumvents the whole bank manager process isnt it?!

(shhh dont tell female smoothedit.

Depends why you want to upgrade - is it just to spend the student loan on upgraditis - in which case get out more and do something adventurous (even if it is only a big cat day at WHF!) and use the kit you already have.

If your current body stops you doing something, like sports because the burst rate is too low, then upgrade the body.

If your current lens stops you doing something, like gigs because it is not fast enough for the low light conditions, then upgrade to L glass.

This is a question that should be asked before any purchase

Will doubling the value of your 'collection' double the quality of your results ?

glass is definitely the differantiator, i always think cheap body and expensive glass. obviously dont go too cheap a body though because the glass will more than likely out perform it.

Definitely...

Definately glass , I've got a 40D and think its great but I spend my money (when I can) on lenses
I still use my 350D as a spare body and get great shots with it and the 70-200F4L
