Yes
they'd be relieved to finally reach a plateau whereby they have everything they need...

One minute I think I'm there, with the purchase of Lee filters then something else comes up. :bang:

Is it just me?

I feel I'm at that point.

I have a camera, and a selection of lenses that suit me well for the style of photography I enjoy doing. I have a single off camera flash which when used thoughtfully helps me fine. I have a cheapo tripod that keeps my camera still enough during long exposures. I have a single ND filter which helps me during uneven exposures, and that's it.

I often find myself lusting after a battery grip for extended battery life and more comfortable grip, a telephoto zoom lens for getting those portraits and sports shots, a better tripod to secure my camera even better, a second flash to give me extra lighting power and versatility, a monopod to use when a tripod isn't practical.

Do I need any of those things?
No, not really.

Would these things help me achieve shots otherwise I wouldn't be able to take?
Arguably, yes. Second flash would help during countless shots. Can't replicate a telephoto lens with a wide angle and standard zoom. A monopod would make my shots MUCH more stable.

Can I justify these spends?
Hell no I can't.

The accessories I have really do help with the images I take and make life a lot easier, but aren't absolute necessities, but can make the difference between getting the shot and not..

I do really feel I am getting there, but not quite every time I feel that way :bang:

PS. I can count on one finger the number of "bad, erroneous" purchases I've made and haven't regretted a single photographic purchase..

Hell, I had pretty much everything I NEEDED when I just had an F65 2 lens kit and a set of close up filters! Then I wanted an F80, a D70 etc...

Now, all I want is a D700 and a fast tele zoom but I don't NEED either.

I'm about there as far as kit goes. I have a Canon 30D and 40D, which both suit me well enough. After very careful deliberation I see no point at all in upgrading to the 50D or full frame. I have six Canon lenses, four of which get regular use, and of which two are "L" glass. I have 2 X 580EX flash guns and a Manfrotto carbon fibre tripod and hydrostatic ball head, and a Manfrotto monpood with ball head. I have pretty much all I need in terms of filters, lightstands, brollies, flash brackets , teleconverters, macro tubes and other nik-naks.

Under consideration are a couple of fast primes for wedding use and, if ever Canon actually makes one, a 1.6X crop body with pro spec AF - a mini 1d3, if you will - but I won't be holding my breath as Canon seems hell bent on forcing more pixels upon us rather than anything actually useful.

I have everything I 'need', but there is a massive list of things that would make a huge difference and that I would desperately like.

I thought I had pretty much everything I needed.......until I discovered this forum!!

Now I want lots of other stuff!!!

Not much chance of getting it though, short of a lottery win!

I'm actually pretty happy with my stuff. I have a 1DsII and a 1DII. Whilst I'd love the MkIII versions, not enough to make we want to change.

I have the glass I want too. In fact, I've recently been clearing stuff out I no longer use!

i feel i have things i want now apart from a lens and a couple of filters

not long to go now...

I can get by with what i have, I dont want to get by though!
I dont need or warrant a 1D series body but there are a few features that would be beneficial when upgrading my 400D to a 50D later this year.
I have 5 lenses now, i will be selling 2 and buying a further 3. thats my lens selection complete.
I have just upgraded my tripod. I will soon have the flash i need.
i have most gadgets for the camera and only one thing i have regretted buying and that was the sun shade, that caused more problems then it solved!

i have spent a decent amount already and once i have the lenses its only really bodies that may change as technology adviances.

i was there - well sort of then i tried out a canon 500mm L f4 IS..... man what a lens....

I think I have everything I need, other than selling my sigma 70-200 f2.8 and buying the Canon version with IS I have no plans to buy anything else, I do have rather a lot of UV filters that are smaller than I need so I may get rid of some of them when I need space in the bag

I expect that in a year or so I will be lusting over a long lens but its unlikey I will be able to afford one until the property market picks up and I sell my house :(

I'm content knowing I'm nowhere near :D

I used to have everything I needed when I had a Praktika MTL3 (actually still have 2 in the cupboard) but now life is getting more complicated... and I've also just discovered Kerso through this forum. Oh dear.

I have everything I need  but I'll never have everything I want :bang:

I thought I was pretty well safe as far as new gear goes, as I'm pretty content with the gear I've got. I'm finding myself just a little bit jaded with the whole digital process though, and just lately it's been replacing the film gear I got rid of when I went digital which is making big holes in the bank balance. :suspect:

Well, need is such a strong word. All we need is a camera and lens and a memory card, so in essence, everybody has what they 'need'.

Want is also not the word, because I would want everything.

Maybe happy? Am I happy with what I've got?

Now, yes! I just received a new tripod (old one had a mechanical failure). My lenses cover a range from 10-200 without gaps and I've got a few filters to make waterfalls creamy and to reduce glare off of windows and water. I feel complete now and happy with what I've got.

But boy would I love to have some fast glass. That's next on my list.

Mmmm...still  :lol::lol: About as clear as mud :lol:

I don't think it's correct to term it a "plateau". It's an incline where the challenge is to stop it becoming steeper.....however, my wife's holding on to the desperate hope that your "plateau" actually exists.

Bob

I've got more than I need for taking photographs.

I must keep reminding myself of this. But it doesn't stop me wanting more toys.

The wants are unlimited. Many times I'm just convincing myself that I don't need more gear.

 Cheers, I'll remember this, especially if I meet the special lady....

I can't be that far off with the stuff I have..famous last words :nono::lol::nuts:

I find myself changing the type of photography I do, which usually means I have the "wrong" lenses, so I need to sell what I have and buy another load.

That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it
