Yes
Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone uses a graphics tablet for editing photos. I don't mean the expensive ones, just the cheaper wacom bamboo ones. They look quite nice for around £50ish

I don't really do complex edits/masks in photoshop though. Its mainly a case of moving sliders lol

hey, in short yes and i cant do without it, i love it to bits it makes everything so much easier and efficent in ps

Yup - I got a Wacom Bamboo a couple of months back and its chuffing great. Love it in Lightroom2 on the adjustments brush!

Worn one out will be getting another as soon as I can. This time I will be willing to part with a little more hard earned to get a "better" one. I love the pressure function on the brushes in PS. The harder you press the wider the brush. It must have saved me hundreds of hours.

Cheers
Al.

there are some on sale at aldi at the moment at £25.00, just got 1 and seems to work great. it's made by medion, i believe someone is selling the very same one on here at the moment

How would you know where on the image your placing then 'pen' though? I've often wondered about tablets.

Wacom graphics tablet

Basically instead of using a mouse, you use a pen - makes editing in graphics programs easier and more precise.

Cheers for that. Did look it up on google after I posted. Seen them before and wondered about how effective they are. Mind you I do not do much PP other than sliders in aperture 2 tbh.

Not a tablet as such, but i am using a tablet PC. That has it'w own challenges, but also it's own rewards.

I've had a Wacom something-or-other for a long time but can't be bothered with it as my Logitech trackball mouse is so much more accurate and easier to use. Just thumb movement. Yes, it hasn't got pressure sensitivity obviously, but it's not a feature I miss.

The tablet area is mapped to the screen, so bottom left corner of tablet = bottom left of screen ... etc.. - not sure how this works on a wide-screen monitor, maybe someone else can explain.

You use it like a mouse, in that you look at screen while moving pen.

I have one that I use for hand marking pdf files (using markup software), but I have never got used to it for image editing and often revert to mouse.

I do find the pen useful for doing detailed selections. For things like dodge and burn where movements are much more fluid (and there are frequent menu changes), the mouse is easier - mainly because hand movements are smaller on mouse.

I haven't used a mouse since I got my graphics tablet and pen some 7 years ago (still using the same Wacom A6). Even as I type, I balance the pen on my thumb so when I go back to the tablet, I don't have to pick the pen up again. Some find tablet and pen difficult to get used to but I have always found them preferable to a mouse. And there's no contest when making selections etc in photoshop, the tablet wins every time.

i use a aldi a4 tablet and a trust a5 tablet and i think they are exellent value for money
