Yes
I was using one of these the other day - they're great!

anybody tested one with heavy kit?

I'm tempted for an occasional tripod and as a flash bracket

I don't know how good the combo is, but i found a flickr discussion where people have used a manfrotto ball head 482/484/486 which have Quick-Release and are very stable.

Problem is that whacks the price up to a RedSnapper price.

I think i'll grab the SLR Zoom with some vouchers i have and see how well it does with my 300D and lil Fuji, then see whether i want to add a ball head.

Amazon have that play combo for sale at around £70

This would've been really useful on my holiday last week, typical :bang:

Have one with a Giotto ball head.........

Have only used it with K-m and kit lens - worked fine - not sure I would trust it with the K20d, grip and heavier lens....

I have had my griped 500D, 70-200 2.8 IS and 580EX2 flash on a Chinese copy (I just wanted a temporay mini tripod till I got my manfrotto 055CX4 legs) and it held no problem just as a standard tripod. I guess an original will do just as well. I do want to get an RC2 plate head for it just to make it more flexible, with just a flat platform wrapping it round vertical objects is difficult getting it to hold and a level shot without messing about a ball had would allow me to get it to hold then get it level without having to adjust the legs.

check out dealextreme if your happy with a copy.

I've got the SLR gorillapod and I'm happy with it! Its ideal to fold up and put in my bag when not in use :)

I love it. Sometimes the pro lenses can be a bit heavy for it, especially with the Manfrotto head I've got on it, but it works really nice.

I did trust my camera to it on a roof though ;)

Larger here.

I was half expecting a load of horror stories and people saying steer clear because i couldn't find much of a mention of it on here, but you replies have all been encouraging.

I'm gonna grab the SLR Zoom, just waiting on one last voucher to be delivered so i won't have to hand over any reddies for it :)

Thanks, I'll put some pics up when it arrives and what it can handle.

The SLR is good but just starts to sag with a long lens- only due to the 2 small links between the head and the legs- the Zoom has none so loses flexibility but is obviously stronger.

In a nutshell- the SLR version is I think a "compromise"- good flexibility but not as strong.
