Hi

I have read a few photo mags recently and seen adverts for websites that allow you to upload your photo stock and sell your photos online.

Does anyone do this?

What are your thoughts?

There's quite a few stock photos that pay for photographs, a few things to remember:

1) Stock photo sites are always looking for new and original images to be uploaded. It's more than likely they have hundreds of images of everyday things, and most of the cliche images that are kicking around. So to upload images to one and get paid, you need to have some good quality, original images.

2) They don't pay too much. The usual starting rate is about 25% of each image. Of course if you have a couple of thousand images uploaded you will make a nice amount, some people sell photos on stock photo sites to make a living. And as always, the more you upload the more you get out of each sale.

Probably the biggest stock photo site is http://www.istockphoto.com - they have a HUGE library of stock images.

Remember though, you will usualy have to go through a lengthy process of answering questionairres, uploading sample photos and, like on istockphoto, upload some kind of ID (drivers licence, passport etc).

They can always just reject your application. istockphoto takes like 2 weeks to review your application.

You can potentially make a fair bit of money out of them, but you need to be good and have a nice collection of original photos which they don't already have hundreds of.

Do not use istockphoto. They are a plague on stock photography. $1 an image!? 50p?!? Thats completely ****. Sign up to www.alamy.com and make some real money.
