Does anyone know why this could happen?

:lol: Although I take great care of my gear, I used to say a similar thing about scratches and marks on guitars when I used to tour.

My Gretsch and my Les Paul STD both still have my blood on :D You'd could clone me from the bridge and bridge pick up :lol:

Thomas, you have just gone up hugely in my estimation :D

I too have a Les Paul Sunburst- it's rather a small plastic one though, plugged into Guitar Hero. I'm rubbish at that too :(

Ha ha, I haven't even got around to playing guitar hero yet, I don't have the time to play my real ones these days :(

When I had hair and used to tour, I'm bottom right.

Actually, if you look closely at the edge of the screen there are a number of dents there too, probably from banging off other lenses in your camera bag....
 
IMO there is nowt better looking than a lens thats been bought, opened, used and enjoyed -

You could keep it in the box and look at it with pride, for the wonderful pictures that it could take...

But surely its merely a tool to help you get towards your ultimate goal - a decent capture - so whats a few smudges and scratches really going to matter if you are in it for the great pictures that you are going to get with a nice lens - pictures that will not be affected by a smudge on the lens markings.

At least my lens is still taking great pictures as other Tokina 12-24 in the world do.
