The multiple catchlights circling around the iris.

Does anyone know what could have caused such an effect? The model's claim it was definitely done on the shoot but don't want to reveal the secret of the photographer as it's his own device he built. Some sort of LED ringflash? A little stumped on this one at the moment.

**STAFF EDIT** Image changed to link as it was not taken by the OP

It's a ring of lights. Could be LED ringflash but it would have to be pretty powerful.

I've seen home made lights using circular frames and lots of light bulbs.

The catchlights look triangular so maybe some wedge shaped light. Or even a disk with shadow bars on it light by some powerful flash.

But my money's on multiple small lights.

Could you PP this?

Could you PP this?

You can photoshop anything, so yeah.

I've never tried this but you could probably blackout alternate panels on a large reflected brolly or you could put a 'stencil' over a large octabox.

I know a guy on another forum posted a very similar image (might even be one of his) and also a pic of a DIY rig.

It was basically a load of mini fluorescent bulbs mounted on a wooden ring, something the size of a loo seat!

Quite a bit of work, but very simple in principle.

looks cool!

I would bet thats done in PP, looks to me like the rings are incomplete in the models left eye for where they are positioned in her right eye.
if you wanted to make one here's what they look like there are loads of guides dotted around the net
