Yes
when i look in my camera bag and think about what i've spent i cant help but wonder what if ? . it set me thinking (a rare thing) would it be worth getting it insured ,any of you have insurance and if so what would you reccommend , paying as little as possible of course .

photoguard will insure 2500 pound of gear for 63 pound a year.

dont know what your set ups worth but they give instant quote on line.

im with them but never claimed so cant say how good they are but you must have your equipment in hard secure box.

read the smallprint first

Mine is insured by E&L, doesn't cost too much, and covers the equipment in theory wherever you take it.

However I also ride mountain bikes, and I've heard from people that have insured their bikes that sometimes the money is pretty hard to get out of them, so maybe not such a good idea. I'm considering moving mine.

63 pounds a year dont sound too bad it would be enough for me (just) i'll
ave a look at that and maybe try prising my wallet open.

Dont forget to check what your home contents insurance covers you for, as some policy's cover you when your out of the home, as long as your not a semi/pro.

Some photo insurance also state you must have original reciepts, only cover you for a set amount of days out of the UK, and will only cover your gear when in transit if they are in a rigid container, ie not a camera bag.
Shop around as you can get some good deals from local insurance agents.

Mine is covered on home contents, 2 bodies and 2 lenses + misc accessories, whether at home or travelling.... about an extra £40 a year I think, but partly because we have a joint contents/bulidings policy anyway. Always worth chatting to your current insurer, tell them what you have and generally what kind of work you do with it [for instance, mountain biking or skiiing might demand a higher premium as chances of accidental damage are higher] and see what they say.

I have my equipment insured in my home contents, my insures only want to know about items costing over £1000 = 2 items, body and lens in my case, which costs me about £35

NU home/building new for old single item £1500 before need to notify. Presume will need some sort of proof - reciept/piture/serial nums etc.

all of the above good advice.

i went with photoguard cause on booking to do a class photo i was asked if i had insurance, and on the advice of you guys it was suggested that i would need public liability insurance. as i do weddings and portraits i sorted it out with photoguard . My camera stuff is insured on my house insurance but if anything happened i would rather have it insured seperatly and then my house insurance wouldnt go up, cause i had lost my no claims bonus.

many thanks for all your good advice/comments, my house contents insurance covers me for £1000 ,not really enough:( so i think i'll need a crowbar to prise open wallet and look at buying insurance:eek:

with so many people opting to get the best gear they can this usually involves getting things second hand, how are these companies when it comes to things like that? usually they want to see original receipts but that doesn't always work.

I contacted Photoguard saturday morning, and was sent a reply an hour later, with some good advice and help(I spend a lot of time in Spain, so needed to be sure I was covered for more than 30 days or whatever..) so will be using them - good service so far !
