Does anyone go to the pub anymore?

£4 round the corner for Coors, £5.50 along the road in the Italian pub/restaurant ........ guess where I go :)

I think the last time I went to a pub or had a lovely beer, was back in September 2019, when we stopped off for a couple of nights at the following place, near Regensburg in Germany. They brewed all their own beers on site and they were excellent. I have linked to their current prices, which confirms that we are being fleeced in the UK.

On extreme occasions we will call in a pub, mainly for a meal on holiday but locally, maybe once every couple of months just for one drink.

I’m going tonight, it’s a family do unfortunately I can’t get out of it, will only have a couple though and probably moan about the prices for the rest of the weekend

If you are only going to moan about the price, you will not get much enjoyment from the experience. When I was first married, I was not earning much but my wife and I decided we did not like the idea of the areas favoured by many British people for a holiday (e.g. Spain) so chose Norway. I had researched and discovered that beer was typically £3-£4 a pint in Norway but about 50p at that time in the UK. So we saved up for longer so we could really enjoy the holiday. At our hotel were a group of English people from my own county who did not enjoy themselves at all and made a fuss about drinking water because they could not afford beer; they could have done their research. We were grouped with two older couples who were clearly better off than us but also wiser. Each evening we ordered a bottle of Norwegian wine (awful) with 6 glasses and then drank our duty free whisky for the evening. To be fair the Manager noticed what we were doing but never commented.

I like a nice Conona from Spoons
That would be the Corona brewed in the UK that tastes like Gnats
Most of the exotic sounding beers are now brewed under licence in this country.
They taste rubibsh because its often about the water used and locally grown ingredients.

Best bet is a German beer that is brewed under their strict rules. Something like Bitburger or Krombacher that is widely available here.

well i am off to spoons in batley with wife to meet up with bob and trish for a few hours :-)

I frequent my local most Friday and/or Saturday nights, the landlord is a decent guy, does no end of charity fund raising and works hard for our village community. I'd rather my hard-earned go in his till than a supermarkets or 'spoons till.

We go to our local Wetherspoons once a week, sometimes twice. We generally go on one of the quieter nights such as a Wednesday when it's not full of youngsters. Other pubs have become too expensive for us these days. I can also use my 50p off a pint Camra vouchers in 'spoons.:)

Went to the local spoons a couple of weeks back on a Saturday night and it was only about a quarter full and absolutely no atmosphere. Went round the corner to an old school pub that is twice the price, with live music in one bar and the football on the garden TV, and it was absolutely rammed….

Havent really been a regular pub goer for years as all my friends moved in different directions and no work culture for it. Can see it picking up a bit as just taken on an allotment and it has a real community feeling, and half the plot holders live within 200 yards of one pub and mostly seem to be wearing T-shirts from the brewery tap shop half a mile up the road...

There is a brewery tap shop which has opened up the road from us. It sells little tins of beer for £4 a go - I won't be having any of that. I will be sticking to my bottle of Spitfire or Bishop's Finger from Lidl for £1.20 a go.

Seems p*** poor set up if they don’t have their own products on draught, at decent prices too.

We have a local pub that's changed hands recently. We try and support it with occasional use because it almost closed once - someone bought it and applied for planning permission to change it into a dwelling. It's been a pub for well over 100 years.

The new landlady is completely missing the mark with her social skills. No smiles or hello or goodbye when we're the only people in there. We think it's expensive too, but I might have my head in the clouds. I'm very partial to a pint of Beavertown Neck Oil and that's £6 a pint.

Very rarely now, too many pubs stink of cooked food especially fish.
Spent many hours in public houses over the years, but just not the same these days.
Went in one the other week in Liverpool called The Baltic
Reviews said proper old pub, but they were trying too hard to be and it wasn't

I like places such as the old style Brown bars in Rotterdam, no food just beer and people
having a chat.
My second date with my OH was in The Baltic in the 80s :D I think it was a bit ropey then, but we were outside where they had live music. There were a few 'colourful' places beside the dock area.

Yes, every Wednesday evening, as a rule. Bikers have their list, and so do us scooter riders. One of the great pleasures of life is sitting in a pub garden on a lovely summers evening.

I go to a tap room for a Manchester brewery each Wednesday and Thursday after work. Two pints of house or guest ales.; usually an IPA.

Sometimes go to a tap room in Rawtenstall on one of the weekend days, again I enjoy one of the house ales.

I enjoy supporting the craft brewers that aren't part of a major label. I don't drink at Weatherspoon's.

I can walk to several pubs. So I do.
In a nearby town there is a Wetherspoons. I've never been in it,

can't get past the bouncers....

I go to pubs in London when I visit friends there, usually 'spoons as you can't go wrong with properly kept cask conditioned ale for £2/pint. Knocks bottled stuff out of the park for taste, unless it's bottle conditioned like Worthington white shield.

Not "gastro pubs" or places with widescreen TVs or that only sell stuff stored under CO2.

We met some friends in the local last Saturday,:beer::beer::beer:

never again

Had lunch in the pub with four friends today; loud music could drive us away and it is clearly not attracting anyone as we were the only customers today. We were speculating as to which event might arrive first: a. the end of pubs, b. a nuclear war, c. the end of the planet or our natural deaths.

Local snooker club has this on draft, not sure how much but it’s under £5 a pint, so your local‘s dear.

I suspected so. I think it drives the locals away. Apparently they do do a ‘happy hour’ when a group of local older men go each week. I’ve not yet bumped into a local in there since March when it reopened after a winter closure - although we’re probably only there once a week, if that. Still, it’s not looking good.

I think that the same could be said of most cities in certain areas. I see the minimum pricing as simply harming the poorest in society.
For the first time in years, alcohol related deaths have fallen in Scotland....

Well walked into our local pub, turned round and walked out again. They had changed the venue for our meeting and I didn't check.

We quite often pop into one of the local bars with our dog for a quick drink.
Wetherspoon have a place in Prestwick. It's cheap, breakfasts are OK but rest of the food is like microwave meals to me. Atmosphere is pretty crap too. Usually full of real ale old farts. I try and avoid it if I can. I'd rather pay more in a better establishment...
Too many tight feckers here......spend thousands on camera gear but moan about the price of beer and crisps :ROFLMAO:

Typically once a month for the traditional "beer night" with the lads to set the world to rights, very important for the old mental health. Trying to cut costs I headed off for the bus stop last week to save a tenner on the taxi journey. Bus didn't turn up so I ordered an Uber, what can you do.

Always go to independent pubs and always finish off at local non-chain restaurants. Costs about twice as much as it did pre-covid but if you can't enjoy yourself occasionally, what's the point?

there is a new micropub that recently opened up near where i live so i quite often go there - you can just get a third of a pint of craft keg which is normally about £2-£3 - i tend to drink more for the flavor than just for the alcohol like many do so a third suits me fine - the general atmosphere is far more friendly than most regular pubs

Ive always been a bit of a p*** head I only tend to go out 3 times a week now with my mates .usually wednesday fridays saturdays but every month we do a mad monday too ..tend to not get too p***ed nowadays so stick to 6 to 8 pints depending on how many of us are out.but the odd time we will have a fes more...just depends on thd mood .im north west so its only about 3.50 to 4 quid a pint depending on what pub we go to ...its only money and you cant take it with you ...lifes for living
