I know this is a photography forum but we're all creative types.
i've been known to pick up a pencil and i just started drawing again (in charcoal) for the 1st time since june 2010

so it got me wondering :shrug:
 
i wouldnt mind seeing some if you've got anything online!

i'm really terrible with paint but ive got a set of acrylics in my cupboard that have sat there for the best part of a decade.
although i have been tempted to get them out now im more patient and have a go

what inspired me to have a go at drawing again was stumbling across this youtube video David Dancey-Wood

Funnily enough as an Art teacher I only draw/paint to show the students how to do it, but never for my own pleasure. Like Matt, photography has taken over for me.
 
Can't draw for toffee. Couldn't even stay within the lines in a colouring book. Can't seem to get the image I want to draw from my brain to my hand.

Which is odd as I can get the image from my brain to my lens no problem!
 
My daughter does. She's quite a good photographer too, but art - in the sense of drawing/painting is more important in her life.
 
i'm not too bad with a pencil, just a bit rusty.....dearly want to get back drawing a bit more and have every intention of investing in a tablet in the near future :)
 
I've gotten lazy, but I used to all the time. Sketching with a pen was mostly my thing...

i used to draw comic art all the time. Not drawn anything since my teens though, too many other hobbies. I used to love doing it though, its very peaceful
 
I used to draw a lot but being forced to copy other people's work constantly in GCSE art beat any enjoyment I got from it out of me.

I do tend to think in diagrams though, sometimes imaginary and sometimes by actually drawing them.
 
I keep trying, but I'm abysmal at it. Even when I've taken a photo first, and then tried to copy it, it's ended up as an eyesore.
 
I always take some pencils to bed with me. Every night.

To 'draw' the curtains!! lol

you have to remember not to push the pencil into your eye, but instead push it onto the paper
 
I did sneeze once and impale my nose on a pencil. =/

Pencils, paints, pastels. Whatever method I try I still have 8 year olds laughing at me. Or they sympathetically ask me what I did to damage my hands.
 
I enjoy drawing, but I don't draw that much. I do lots of technical drawings for my design course work but apart from that I'm really bad at drawing realistic looking things, like landscapes or people.

I mostly end up doodling cartoon style things or logos.

Love to know how you get on with that when you do, as I think id enjoy a tablet ... Hopeless with a mouse, I need to feel the surface with a digi pen or something to get a flow going.
 
My greatgrandfather was a composer, my grandfather a musician, my father a photographer, my mother an artist.......... sadly the only talent I have is as a photographer. Would love to be able to draw but with arthritic fingers not much chance.

very nearly bought one earlier in the year, but something else got in the way :(

might have to flog some gear to get one, but needs must :gag:
 
I also find drawing peaceful, i can sit for hours like i did today with a few films on in the background drawing away by myself

i never tried to do any realistic drawings and never used charcoal before but i am pretty chuffed with my results

3 or 4 drawings down the line i'll have the fur looking much better :)


i couldnt imagine drawing with a tablet on a computer... whats wrong with a pencil and a piece of paper!?

I used to draw a lot until about 18, I've recently purchased a Wacom tablet and drawn a couple of basic animals to get to grips with it.

I think digital drawing will be something I could get in to and then merge it with my photography for a different style, but it's finding the time. My daughter is now nearly 7 weeks old and despite her just sleeping, eating and pooping I never seem to have any time!

I've just this minute ordered a bamboo pen and touch tablet :) really looking forward to giving it a go.....and good luck with the nipper, my photography has suffered over the last 3 years (2 kids!!!) :naughty:
 
I trained as a graphic designer and went to university to train as a wildlife illustrator, such was my love for drawing. Got sucked in by photography in the end and changed courses...

Used to love pen drawing with Rotrings, Biro pens, and Pantone markers, especially product design and faux manga stuff. Did some drawing in Illustrator and Photoshop a few years ago but it wasn't the same, although it was hard. Nowt like scribbling on a piece of paper... :)
 
Used to love drawing as a kid, really enjoyed technical drawing at school which probably inspired me to follow a career in engineering.
That was more than 20 years ago, and I'm really out of practice now though, and can't get what's in my head onto paper. I'm sure I could get back into it with a little tuition and a lot of practice!

Yeah, I've got the Bamboo pen and touch silver slim one, although I paid for the normal one :p PC world made the mistake of selling me an empty box, checked it in the car and they got all flustered and upgraded me by accident :p

Make sure you install it using the instructions, but then go to the website and download the latest update otherwise you may have trouble.

it takes a while to get used to it as it only works up to about 2cm from the top of the pad but you can and its pressure sensitive in paintshop etc :D
 
Back in 2001/2 when I couldn't afford to have a camera [divorced, young kids, waste of space ex, etc] I took up watercolour and acrylic painting for a while. I had done O-level art at school many years earlier and was destined for A-level studies - except failing the O-level had never crossed the minds of my art teachers. There was a row, but never got anywhere and my grade D stood.
So I discovered through attending an art group with lots of pensioners that I can put colour on paper quite well, but drawing, well, I am ..ok at best. However I loved doing it and had a great mentor who also inspired me to manage to save and afford a camera again. I still have some less good stuff hanging around somewhere in the spare room or loft, but anything really nice got sold through a coffee shop in a local converted mill as a part of an exhibition of our art group.
I have no idea where Bill is these days, we lost touch when I moved to London, but where ever is, he will always have my gratitude :thumbs:
 
i was terrible at art at secondary school, got to college and did an art gnvq (thought it would be a skive) and found out i was actually ok at drawing if i put the effort in

but painting... id love to be good at painting but no matter how much i tried it was really really bad at it lol

saying that though, youtube is excellent for tips/hints and tutorials and well worth a look if youre struggling with anything in particular :)

Vaguely happened to me...was very good at art and had an interview at a certain art college, which happened to be at the same time my work was being examined at my current college and they refused to let me take any of it. Hence me not being allowed into said art college because "my portfolio was too weak"....grrrrr
