I was wondering if anyone has had issues where once you have taken a picture and you then go to view it, parts of the picture flash like a negative??:shake:

I bought my 40D in April from Jessops so don't know if I should be taking it back, doing a Firmware upgrade or whether I'm just making novice mistakes whilst using it.

Any thoughts most welcome.

it's just telling you the bits that are over-exposed!
the actual picture won't do that

Page 117 of the manual, you have Highlight Alert enabled, it shows blown highlights.

The bits that are flashing are over exposed areas. Check through the menu and you should be able to switch this off....if you want to

It may be showing burnt-out highlights, you should be able to set the screen in several different modes, like as a histogram, highlights, or normal. Look at your manual if someone here doesn't mention how to do this on canon. Maybe nikon is similar, I scroll left and right to view pictures, and up and down to go between modes.

aye, if its flashing over the white areas then its just showing you where the white saturation is, which has mmcp42 said, lets you see the exposure levels.

Don't panic. This is normal. It's showing you where the highlights are overexposed. It won't appear on the final image. This feature enables you to ascertain if you've got the exposure right. It's quiet normal for this to happen in sky areas.

Is all ok ..... flashing areas are over exposed. someone else will be better able to explain than me and i'm sure they will be along soon. In the meantime have a look through the destruction manual. :)

I've been wondering this for years lol!! Bu doesn't it show all whites, not just over-exposed?

nope just the over-exposed bits!

Nope, if you get the whites exposed properly it falls onto the histogram. The flashing bits are the stuff that's too bright for the histogram and that is where the detail will be lost.

It's a fab feature and one of my favourite things about my camera.
