Yes
Just won a nikon 55-200 vr brand new. Now the seller does have pretty good feedback and says he's from swansea. However the invoice says:

Seller Information: yan ke
piscataway, NJ 08854 United States

and he says that he takes no responsibility for items lost/damaged in post unless insured for £2, yet he doesn't offer insurance. Ive emailed him to offer up the insurance - but does it seem gen to you guys???

His eBay profile indicates he's US based and he has plenty of decent feedback

I suspect he's genuine but also suspect it won't be a UK lens and so won't have a warranty, that said you got it at much less than the UK list price. If you paid by Paypal and the lens doesn't arrive you should be covered by Paypal as the onus is on the seller (I think) to be able to provide proof of postage

Hopefully all will be ok

BTW I like his sense of humour - based in the USA and name is Yan Ke :-)

There are quite a few sellers like that on Ebay, same sort of set-up as our own Kerso probably. It'll be a US lens, so your warranty will be with the seller, not Nikon, but tbh I can't remember ever hearing of one of those lenses packing in. Ignore the bit about not being responsible for postal losses, if it doesn't turn up Paypal will refund your money.

If you are not sure contact others who have left feedback.

if the warrenty is with the seller and he refused to replace/repair 9-10mths on would i still be covered by paypal?

Think i'll go with it cos like you say paypal will cover me ye!

The way to do it is pay at least 1 pence of it with a credit card, that way the cc company are liable for the full amount in the event of a claim ;)

As Flash In The Pan said Nikon lenses are really reliable and I very much doubt you'll have any problems.

Enjoy it and the fact you saved £100 :-)

Sorry wrong info.

hi ,when you pay by paypal the buyer is covered and if you dont receive it the seller must supply a tracking number for the item and if he doesn't you will get a refund from paypal ,also proof of posting doesnt protect the seller ,it as to be trackable.

Let us know but I think the story will have a happy ending

why do people buy from these US sellers. they come in and flood the market. there are many very good UK/English resident sellers who offer good prices and very good service. no wonder the UK is going downhill if people carry on supporting the US economy. the poor english sellers have an even harder time.......

Human nature! Most will go for the cheapest option, thats why. If UK prices were lower?? who knows!

hi, yes. the gbp to the $ is tricky at times as we know. while everyone over here buys from
over there there is no hope and soon there will be only them and no-one english left. still,
that's what they like - come in - wipe out all the competion until they rule. grrrrr......

aahhh.... how do they get around the import duties/vat etc. that other people have to cope with then????

Well it arrived today and in good working order, so i'm happy :) It was very quick delivery and was sent by RM so it was from the UK as stated - so he gets my recommendation (olympiasolar ebay seller) - spot on!!!

Ye got questions about it already - i'm not happy, but with my technique/lack of skill - not my lens (I think/hope anyway!!)

looks like you dodged a bullet there !

i'd get questions/concerns up into a thread, that way the clever people here can work things out for you :]

ye need to transfer n upload pics to photobucket 1st and then hope that out of 350 views at least someone comments haha!!!!
