Dodgy battery?

Bought a battery off Amazon. Definitely Amazon (selected Electronics & Phot dept, and then selected amazon.co.uk as seller) rather than marketplace seller.

Looked genuine and opened it up. Serieal number, hologram etc all present. Plugged it in and i started to blink once per second so figured it was charging fine. Checked it nine hours later and it has been blinking rapidly. Pulled it out and reinserted, and it blinked slowly for about five seconds before blinking rapidy again. Google search suggested cleaning the contacts with a business card, which I did and now it seems to be blinking once per second at the moment and has been for the last three mins.

Any other way of checking of genuine/non-genuine?
Anything else I should be doing?

i had this problem once with my genuine battery and it was idd the contacts on the charger and the battery, i cleaned the contacts and it fixed the problem must of been the dust on them
 
Well it's now fully charged after three hours. Didn't realise it'd need cleaning beforehand!
 
I read somewhere - sorry, can't find the reference - that batteries for shipping will have some sort of protective coating for over the contacts because of the panic over liths & lipos bringing down Airbusses. Or something.

Anyone know?
 
Could simply be a duff battery. it happens. As it's Amazon you purchased from simply return it as faulty. I've had to return stuff to Amazon a couple of times over the years and it's no hassle. Simply check out their returns policy on the web site.

By the way it's not a genuine Canon battery. It states it's an Octopus version. I've an Enigiser version of the LP-E6 which works fine, but you do sometimes get an error message from the camera, as it has detected a non Canon product. Just cancel the message and move on.

???? I think you misinterpreted the previous post. My battery was from Amazon. The image I linked to was for the purposes of demonstrating what a battery cover looks like.
 
Check the canon website. I'm sure I recently stumbled upon something similar. It alerted me because I have always just plugged in and assumed it was charging fine.

I think their solution was to remove battery and unplug charger and reinsert. It said something about doing this up to 3 times and if it still appeared not to be charging, to contact their customer support. I might be going mad, but I just remember thinking at the time how it all seemed a bit bizarre.

On the other hand I might be going mad :bonk:
