Dodge and Burn Layers

When I add Dodge and Burn layers in Photoshop, the small boxes that appear in the layers panel have a grey chequered background. Watching YT videos from other photographers doing the same thing, their "small boxes" in the layer panel seem to have a white background.

Have I got something set wrong in Photoshop, any help or advice would be appreciated.
 
Not sure. One of many ways to dodge n burn is to have s 50% grey layer. So layer box would be that colour. Is your dodge and burning working ?

Thanks for the reply Gaz, Yes, both work well.

It's just the differences in the backgrounds that I couldn't work out. I should have added, I use the TK Actions panel and get my Dodge and Burn layers from there. The other videos I've watched, including ones where the photographer uses the TK Actions panel all seem to have the white background to their boxes in the layers panel.
