I've been looking around for months and seem to stuck a bit. I'm a massive fan of English documentary photography, Anna Fox, Paul Graham, Martin Parr, Paul Reas, John Davies to name a few.

All are from the 80's/90's, where/who are the new breed of image makers, suppose this is aimed at students, who inspires you?

(PS Any mention of Simon Roberts is banned from this thread.)

Having just completed my degree I'd say its difficult to say what Documentary photography is now. I've noticed a lot of people are influenced by the deadpan look, ie. Alec Soth, Rineke Dijsktra, etc and some go for more abstract like Rinko Kawauchi.

Martin Parr is still a big influence to students, I attended an exhibition by recent graduate Ewen Spencer who is clearly influenced by the man himself.

Source magazine have their graduate portfolios online for this year, I think you can see some quite clear trends http://www.source.ie/graduate/2012/index.html

Their still out their, but the maket for documentary photos is drying up,so it's getting harder to see their work, there was a an article in the AP,a few weeks ago about younger photographer coming up thought the ranks of Magum :)

Ed,

Can I ask why no Simon Roberts? I've seen some of his work and it's really very good.

Just curious and don't want to start an argument lol.

Andy

Just find his stuff not very inspiring and far too similar to better photographers, Paul Graham and John Davies.
Thanks for the replies will have a look.

Interesting to see Martin Parr is still up there, even though I love his work, I'm finding he recent work has lost a lot of the humour it once had.

I went to the Martin Parr talk at Wedgewood recently. He still has his sense of humour! I have always been very ambivalent about his work but listening to him talk about it makes me appreciate what he's getting at.
