I have an appointement to see my doctor on 26 September, this is to discuss the results of a repeat blood test he asked for. The test was repeated because I had an elevated marker for Diabetes.
Well today the postman delivered a letter from my local hospital, this letter stated the following.
"As you have recently been diagnosed with Diabetes, an appointment has been made for you with the Retina screening program."
I have not yet been told by anyone that I am diabetic, talk about putting the cart before the horse lol.
I guess there is no need for my doctors appointment now is there.
So I would imagine that my doctor has informed the people who run the screening program, that I am now diabetic, long before telling me lol.

Imagine this scenario with an unfortunate patient, who finds out the illness they have is terminal, from the undertaker who has turned up to measure them lol.

It might be a genuine mistake, rather than a failure of administration in the other sense. I'd wait and see rather than assume you are diabetic.

My doctor told me I was prediabetic and had very high cholesterol.

I stopped drinking alcohol as regularly, lost a couple of stone and started using my manual wheelchair more than my electric one. Six months later; no diabetes and cholesterol normal.

Now all I need to do is grow young again and fix my heart problems . . . :sulk:

Unfortunately I cannot see the NHS getting any better - I've just been on a waiting list for 6 months - had it been sorted at the time it was spotted it would have been a simple job costing say a few hundred £'s in "NHS time" ........ a week ago it turned out to be over an hour in the Operating Theatre with a Surgeon, Head Nurse and 3 others, .... which must have "cost" £6k+ in NHS time, (I checked out the cost of having the op done privately as it just got worse and worse, and when I called the NHS they would/could not tell me when I would be admitted)............ I was lucky to get a "slot" otherwise I would still be waiting.

BCC removal on my upper lip, it was not pleasant with stitches externally and internally in my mouth as they had to chop a piece out of my lip and create a "flap" to cover the "hole" - looked horrible after the op but the Surgeon has done a good job and hopefully the scars will not be too noticeable, but at my age no-one will notice anyway
(my first docs appointment was last September!)

I am sure that they, in the NHS, are all doing as much as they can? but the NHS is just bursting at the seams and no-one seems to be able to sort the situation out.

Totally different to my docs , I went for a health/ heart check up a few days before Xmas ,think it was a Tues ,had a blood test , the next day the doctor phoned me and told me I had type 2 diabetes , and made a appointment with the diabetic nurse on the Friday , had the eye test a week later .
Since then I have lost nearly 5 stone and changed my eating habits and go for my third check up in oct . Do act on the advise your given you can turn it around with the right help .. and don’t miss that doctors appointment as you will need the right medication to control the diabetes , do not drive to the eye appointment either as they have to put something in your eyes to blur your vision .
And for gods sake take it seriously it’s a slow killer if left alone

Last month I saw my GP re chest pains returning, two days saw the consultant who decided we’d do an angiogram before jumping in for the double bypass I was told was in my future, One week later back to emergency unit with a mild heart attack, sent home with a ‘not too much to worry about” and the promise of an early appointment, 4 weeks down and no word yet. I’m cool with it but the wife not so much, no hoovering allowed dusting and dishes are my permissible tasks now! FFS woman. In all honesty though my GTN spray has seen more use in the last month than the last two years.

If you’ve got the NHS Patient Access app on your phone you’ll often see test results come up way before you hear anything back from your GP. Or, as in my case, you’ll hear nothing at all, so you just have to read the results and try to work them out yourself. Luckily my wife is an ex nurse so can help with the interpretation …..which has usually been “you’re alright, you’re just an old git!”

My BIL was called recently to inform him that he needed to take Statins.
He was a bit shocked as he is generally very healthy.
He started to question this and the person had a look and said your cholesterol level is 24.
He questioned this as he would probably have been dead with a level of 24.
Turns out it was inputted wrong and was really 2.4.
How the person ringing had not twigged that amazes me
