Well, I seem to have a little problem with viewing images on my Mac. I edit them in lightroom until they are how I want them, then upload to photobucket and view in Firefox.

Now the images viewed in the web browser appear 1/3 - 1/2 a stop brighter which is very frustrating as they may appear to be overexposed when they aren't. When printing I find the reproduction fine using the labs such as DSCL or Sams so where does my problem lie? It's obvioulsy not a monitor calibration problem as they look fine in lightroom and when printed.

Anyone else had this issue or know what I am talking about??

Thanks, Gareth

Does the upload add any compression to the file which will effect the colour?!

Can't be anything to do with your colour profiles can it?

Are you using Adobe RGB or LAB or something and stripping the profile before/while uploading it for viewing on the web so it thinks it's getting sRGB but isn't?

Long shot but thought I'd ask...

Hmm, will go try a different browser. Always use sRGB colour space so that's not the issue.

Have you enabled colour management in Firefox? It's not on by default and you have to delve into it a little to turn it on.

i did a little test recently with browsers and found they were all much and much the same..

colour_test by neilgates, on Flickr

all latest versions at the time, IE9, FF5 etc with no additional defaults changed. file was loaded from my desktop.

try opening the file locally, flickr or another host also, i cant remember if photobucket applies extra compression?

1. Always export your files as sRGB to ensure maximum chance of browsers getting the colour right

2. do they look right in Safari?

3. If you're running v3 of Firefox or later (which you should be)

Thanks for everyones replies, but that second linked has cracked it!! I updated my monitor profile in Firefox and now my browser matches my Lightroom.

Although, it makes me wonder what other folk see of my photos now dependant on their browser!

Not just the browser though.

I calibrate my monitor and it is VERY different to what is was before.

I think most people have their monitors far too bright, so god only knows what my pics look on other peoples screens!

I think the problem is the photobucket maybe when you upload it it change something on it and when appears on firefox it seems what you expect.
