Do you unplug during a thunderstorm?

If I was at home when it happened and it was passing overhead, I'd disconnect the computer and modem. Everything else could be easily replaced.

Nowadays, just don't bother as much.

I wonder whether a spark gap would help. By that I mean an earthed spike within a few mm of the live terminal at the distribution / fuse panel. The voltage spike on the mains, if high enough, will jump the gap to earth. A quick search on tinternet indicates Breakdown at sea level is approx 3000V/mm.

Me Rich! Long standing member of TP, survivor of Heart attack :thinking: and Scrivens, unplugging during a storm? I must be very very drunk  Tbh Tom na not anymore if she blows she blows. There are alot more important things in my life than a few pics and programmes that are stored on my PC.

I think I was browsing tp during the last thunderstorm  The only thing which gets switched off really is the tv, everything else stays on. Maybe I should unplug as we had a lightning stike in our garden really close to the house the other day.

I don't unplug but do switch off computer if there is a light storm that won't last long, maybe 10 minutes and it's over already, or storm is bit of few miles away.

I unplug computer and television equipment if strom is going to be overhead and is going to look bad, real downpour, lightning bright up the sky, and going to last half an hour or more.

I would unplug everything (including TV leads) and turning off the fuse box if it looks like a Star Trek style of storm right above that's going to last an hour or more. :-)

An ex girlfriend used to make me unplug when there was thunder, so she could hide under the bed
