Hi

If you travel with a tripod... what one do you take???

Im needing a new one and rather than ask for ideas I thought i'd learn from other peoples experiances...

How do you find it... do you often end up taking it but hardly using it?

In the past, I've always just taken a clamp type of support (search 7dayshop for 4003) and have used it for star trails and long exposures. This year, I shall be taking a GorillaPod SLR Zoom as well so by mid June, I should be able to report on how well it performed!

Velbon Ultra Luxi F.

I've been travelling with one of those for the last few years, excellent and ideal for landscape trips when you can be walking 20 miles a day with a tent / bag pack.

To be honest the only tripod I have is a cheap £10 from Argos! But I very rarely use it, and I don't have mahousive lenses either, so it does me fine. Nice and light too. But it does get used more to hold a flashgun

Manfrotto 055MF4 & 460 head - light, compact, portable & rock solid.

Ticks all my boxes & I wouldn't be without it when I travel - both UK & abroad

HTH :)

Ha ha! Just the very same tripod I'm replacing... the plastic screw part that holds the base legs together and the screw that lets the verticle section raise and lower all cracked inside... I really only wanted a replacement part from velbon... but they sent me a really snippy email back saying I could not purchase this part... I loved the tripod... but to be honest although its fab and lightweight... Im now thinking its maybe too lightweight... did a few good shots that once i got them home noticed visible tripod shots on long exposure shots. The wind got hold of it at full extensions.

I'd get another... but the snippy email and the fact thats id like more stability and im disapointed that such a vital part is plastic i'd rather not go velbon again... that said for what it was it was a good wee piece of kit!

Well mine is going on 4 years old and is still fine, I plonk it in rivers to do long exposures, chuck it down cliffs to avoid carrying it down and use it for walking poles in a pinch and its works fine - never found anything else like it - if you do let me know as mine is quite abused too be honest!

Sturdy but relatively light - it just works for me.

I fly 200+ times a year and check the tripod in every time. I keep it in a Manfrotto MBAG120P

Not cheap but worth it's weight.

Gave SLIK a better look... thinking about the 340DX AMT... probably my realistic option 1
