Do you think this painting is any good of Kate

Not at all flattering.

It does make her look old and dowdy!

I'm not sure I agree on changing her eye colour to match her blouse and BG either, seems odd!

Sent from Button Moon.....

Old news and was widely picked apart at the time.

makes her look about 10yrs older than she really looks.
Only another 8 and a half years for her to catch up then ;)

Oh that's not flattering at all  first time I've seen it but no, she is a good looking woman and frankly in that painting that artist has fairly completely to capture any of here personality and spirit....frankly it's the passport photo of the painted portrait world :(

God that's awful, face is too wide, colour is flat and I don't like it when they try to use bokeh with paint, I bet deep down she feels horrified to be honest!

Looks like she's been on 60 a day since she was 3 years old.

It was the first.
It won't be the last.
She's one of the most photographed women in the world, and in the grand scheme of things I suspect she doesn't give a 5h1t lol.

It's very good.

It's very unflattering.

I am butt ugly and if someone drew me like that, I'd be 'aving words....

And like the rest of us I'm sure they'd be quaking in their boots lol

Has anyone who has commented so far seen the actual picture itself (National Portrait Gallery)? Like many reproductions I have seen in various media of many paintings, the real thing is in a different league altogether - there is a subtlety and a fine detail which just doesn't come through in the reproductions at all.

Anthony.

We'll said Anthony, I was about to say the same. In the flesh, the portrait looks great and sits well in the gallery it is in.

I saw it some time ago by accident. I was in the area making a pitch to a prospective client just around the corner from the NPG and used the opportunity to visit the Taylor Wessing competition exhibit. The Kate portrait was hanging just next to the exhibition. Whilst not quite as bad as it appears online, it didn't appeal to me. There is much more subtle detail than the web reproductions show but I still thought it unflattering. And it does have that rather '70s soft-focus effect that leave you wondering if the smirk (it's not a smile) is because she's holding tennis ball in one hand and scratching her a--e with the other.

(why is it that the BBC Most Read table frequently throws up stories that are 12-36 months old?)
