Hi the question is in the title . This will be my first summer holiday where I have the opportunity to take my Sony A200 with me. Will I constantly be worrying about dust , theft etc? The other camera I have is a Panasonic TZ5 . What would you advise? Thanks in advance

interesting one.

I'm taking my dlsr to cornwall, but not to USA this year - I have a Nikon P&S that gets battered about but still produces fab pics :)

what's a holiday? I take my cameras everywhere.

Mine goes almost everywhere with me, and it definitely goes on holiday!! Make sure it's properly insured, and go take some decent holiday snaps....use the TZ5 for when you're on the booze, I never trust myself with my DSLR when I'm drinking!!

I take my DSLR with me when I go away on what I class as a break or a holiday.
I've had it in Scotland, England, Egypt, next place it is going will be France.

I even take it to work with me somethimes when the weather is nice and go out and about after work.

:lol::lol: I would sleep with the damn thing if I could, but I'm just too worried about losing it or damaging it, and for that matter, lugging it around all the parks in florida ;)

Took mine recently on a 3 week trip to America with no problems.

Just come back from Germany - yes I wouldn't go anywhere without it... I bought a big bag which is the right size for airplanes which is huge for me, as I don't have a lot of equipment but it means I can take loads of stuff + a laptop etc inside it, and know it's all secure and padded.

Yes i always do. If you do make sure you take it with you in the plane and not put it in the baggage hall otherwise it might come back in pieces. :)

I'll always take my SLR with me on holiday; not necessarily the entire kit, but the body and at least a couple of lenses I know will get used the most; just enough to fit in my hand luggage. I don't have a p&s camera, but, even if I did, and took that instead, I'd no doubt be wishing I had my SLR with me as well! :) Just get yourself a decent insurance policy which covers you worldwide

A 'holiday' is an opportunity for me to get 300 - 500 images for stock libraries - too good a chance to miss. Anyway - without a camera (or two) what would I do all day? :)

Definitely, especially as it's my only camera. (excluding mobile phones)

Holiday without the camera is not a holiday  mine goes every time. I even take it when traveling for work.

I take mine every time! The mrs wishes i didnt haha

 Same here, its been to US, Greece sailing and SA all with no problems, it's fully insured so there is no reason not to take it anywhere!

Yep got the same camera as you (Sony A200) took it to Morroco for last years holiday and in May taking it to Amsterdam and to Greece again later this year. Its really good and light for holiday snaps Morroco was full of dust and it held up well enough so you shouldnt have a problem.

I take my DSLR and leave my wife at home!

Its true she stays at home bless her!

Has nothing to do with claiming back through the business
:)

To the OP mine goes most places with me and certainly when we go places as a family.

Mine comes everywhere with me.
Shopping, work, HOLIDAYS :D

Seriously, never without it.

Yup, I take mine with me on holiday. And a couple of compacts - one waterproof and the other a miniature one.

We go to Crete and I'm not really a beach person (I go red, then my skin peels off), although with copious amounts of P20, I'm very happy snorkelling for a couple of hours so I keep myself occupied taking photos. Plenty to take there, from the obligatory ruins, sunsets etc to less obvious subjects (contemplating a set of roadkill studies...). The camera bag is my carry on luggage, with any spare slots taken up with an extra pair of socks or kex.

its a toss up...why do you have the dslr...and what shots on holiday would you like to be top quality
the damn thing can get dirty and stolen here...just be careful and insured all risks worldwide...etc
first scratch cuts deepest

Most hols yes, but with two toddlers in tow never the whole kit - no matter what I *could* be taking pics of, I find it's best to be keeping them from mortal danger (which they seem to be able to find anywhere)

I take mine, if it's a sunshine holiday then I'll take a wide angle for sunsets and something like the 18-135 for everything else. I'll leave primes at home though and just take the bag, filters and tripod.

I have learnt that pretty much every time I leave the house, the camera bag goes with me (generally the smaller edited version) as in the past have thought "damn, wish I had a camera with me."

As for holidays definately. As mentioned above though, make sure its insured.

I usually take a body and 2 lenses and make a nice album when we get back but doing disney this year and dont want the hassle of constantly thinking about the camera, on rides etc, so just taking the p&s this time. (My wife is much happier too.. she doesn't understand the addiction).
I'm sure the album will still turn out nice too.

I always take mine everywhere I go - sometimes I leave it at airport security, fortunately they gave it back to me! Personally don't see the point of spening all that money and then not taking it to places, kinda defeats the point.

I think if i answered no and didn't take it I'd be disappointed in the shots i missed or couldn't take with a compact, though we have a panasonic TZ3 which was great taking away before i got my DSLR. Before that I took my brick/Nikon F4s virtually everywhere

I just took mine to SA would have been kicking myself everyday for the shots I missed if I hadn't taken mine....

I took way 2 many pics but got some I am really pleased with....

Do it....

It depends on the type of holiday! Skiing, a big NO (still learning, it would end badly :D), but city breaks etc then yes.

Two bodies, three lens, filters, tripod, netbook and bits & pieces always go with me.

Holidays are the only time I get a chance to use mine. So that'll be yes.
