I use to with my Pan European but I have a Harley Softail now and like the idea I can run it round the block to get the oil moved around so tax all year now .

My Silver wing is on sorn has been for 3 years .

west Yorkshire where I am the roads are lethal at this time of year, round the block for me would be pick it up.

Sometimes. Sprint is taxed at the moment in case we get a nice dry cold weekend, but I have sorned it in the past.
I'm also aware of salt on the road, so if that's been liberally distributed I dont ride the bike, bit lazy when it comes to washing/waxing I'm afraid.

yeah its all road grease where we live, Kirklees council the most useless and inept council on the earth.
rather buy motorised legs for disabled hamsters than maintain the streets.

All mine are kept on the road through the winter. Might not get used but they're always available should I feel the urge.

I want to be able to go for a ride when the weather allows it to be a pleasure, so no, I won't be SORN'ing, but as this will be my first winter on two wheels in this country for many years I do need to get some warm and waterproof trousers..
I keep looking at some of those cheap ebay ones at £40-odd but so far have not got any - any recommendations (and sorry for the thread hijack btw..)

hijack away matey, I have some reasonable ones from J and S check them out.
Rukka seem to be popular, Frank Thomas also pretty British Weather proof.
whatever you get make sure they go over your boots not tuck in.

Thanks Paul - I'll pop into a J&S soon.
I actually can't wear boots, as a fused ankle means I can't get them on, so have some 'urban' biking shoes, and need trousers that are a little long and ideally tighten up at the end..

Yes, pop it off the road over winter and SORN it, put it back on when weather bucks up :)

This is the first winter I've sorted my bikes. I've only really done that as my weekends are pretty full at the moment so no time to ride, I usually keep at least one on the road just in case we get a nice day.

Regarding winter gear, I have a set of Hein Gericke textiles which have served me well, they were bought second hand, but in superb condition from here.

Don't buy cheap stuff as you'll end up buying twice, or freezing.

Yes, will be this year, although it's not much of a lay out, about 35 quid for 6 months.

Bandits don't do well on salty roads.

Suzukis Rot if someone has washing hung out locally.

I have an old Hein Gerrick Fluoro jacket which is pretty good but I never rated their trousers that much.
over engineered and fussy.

ACF-50 keeps the red rot and fluffiness at bay. Just keep if off your disks!

Mine are sorned now
I used to ride all year round but not any more
Use the car in the winter now the salt ruins bikes

I don't sorn and to be honest I ride in the winter as much as the summer . Plenty of fine riding days in December /January but suppose it depends if you live in Snowdonia or the likes
