Do you shoot RAW or Jpeg?

Usually JPEG if at a race meeting, but if I'm getting more 'quality' shots then RAW all the way.

I need some bigger cards, see how I get on with new lens...

RAW+JPG for me - it's easier to view the jpg's on the pc/lcd photoviewer.

If im taking pictures of my kids then its RAW as I want the best possible file at the end.
If im at a local football match then its large JPEG just because i may fire off 500 - 700 photos in one game and processing that many RAW files is horrendus

This pretty well sums up my thoughts as well, although you wouldn't see me dead at a football match, I stalk cute little furry animals with my Canon.

Never shot Jpeg always raw, got told it was the best way to shoot so i do, if i take 300 pics I go through and pic the ones i am really happy with a process them and leave the rest.

I often have a clean up where by I go through all the files and check again and then bin the rubbish ones or ones I am not going to process.

Raw gives you so much flexibility it is rude not too.

RAW all the way home baby. Full control.

JPEG on my TZ8 for quick snaps.

Normally raw unless theres some reason to need the jpegs in a real hurry, even then it's only seconds to extract the embedded jpeg. Why start with 75% of the data thrown away.

J-Peg at the moment, but I hope to convert to Raw on my new camera. What space of GB card would I need with Raw, as it takes up more space then J-Peg?

It depends a bit on many shots you take but maybe a 4gb is a fair starting point, some people recomend lots of smaller cards rather than one big one because if it dies you don't loose all your pics that way.

RAW 99% and if i'm away from home for a while RAW and small jpg. I carry a crap netbook about with me when i'm away for backing up the RAW images I can have a quick peek at the jpgs at the same time.
Lightroom is great for editing RAW images recently I had 250+ images of the same subject edit one copy the settings and apply to the rest.

As I dont really do a lot of PP on my pics I shoot mainly in Jpeg but as I've got a One Touch Raw / Jpeg button on my 7D I can shoot RAW at any time I think I need to.

RAW for me, love the flexibility in ACR

I used to shoot Jpeg on my Pany FZ28 (although it does shoot in RAW)

I bought the 7D & I bought LR3

Now I shoot RAW.

Whether in JPeg or RAW I still like to tinker, so may as well shoot RAW to maximize the opportunities.

I do not convert everything to Jpeg though - just the ones I want to print/email/upload etc.

When viewing in LR3, it produces a Jpeg preview of the RAW, and I'll work on the shots I want to & when I want to.

I have 2 TB of space on my PC, but I save to 2 x 1 TB external drives, so space isn't an issue and because of how LR3 works, I'm not doubling up with RAW files and Jpeg files.

Did I mention I now work with RAW files? :)

I shoot RAW on a 4GB card and get 180 images from my Sony Alpha 390, more than enough and I have 3 cards, so never feel as I may run out of space

Les ;)

raw.. because its there
and jpeg super quality when i want the card to have more capacity

my experience with raw is quite good but havent done an AB yet with super quality jpeg

cheers

It used to be .bmp :cuckoo: until I was shown the error of my ways. Now its nothing but .jpg until at least I'm more confident in understand the RAW format and its capabilities.

Raw unless shooting high speed continuous then fine JPEG

RAW for when i go to zoos, wetlands etc... for any portrates which i've been asked to take for the uni :D I shoot in JPEG much easer putting that through the batch processor

Both but to be honest I only really use JPEGs and been quite happy with them thus far.

Mostly RAW though I shoot jpeg for when I use cheesy effects or just unimportant family stuff.

With the cheap memory cards of today, I see no reason to shoot JPEG over RAW. But of course, for some people it will make sense to shoot JPG since they have no interest in editing.

Interested to know more about your last statement, there are many who still edit a jpg, very successfully too. Case in point http://jeffascough.com/ a jpg shooter with class :)

Depending on what it is I'm shooting really, but if I know I have enough space on my 16gb card I sometimes set the RAW+Jpeg option so I have the convienience of raw with a turn around of jpeg if I was to just get things online quickly. I normally go back and edit the raws later and replace the original files.

I always shoot raw but sometime if I need the images to show quickly I will shoot raw + jpeg.

Raw, unless I'm adding something online for sale I'll take it as a small jpeg.

Raw every time for me, unless I need really fast motordrive (which is rare).
I found a long time ago that I couldn't squeeze as much out of jpegs as RAW. (Have you ever had blue skies go "blocky" on you after minor adjustments in levels? Ty switching to RAW)

Raw unless im shooting sports and need more buffer, Disk space is cheap so the file size of raw isn't an issue and you get more room to play with
