Do you sharpen

Been asked many times im sure but I have a d300 with some goof 2.8 sigma lenses-but still they look flat to me out of camera and always need sharpening in ps.

is this usual for you guys too or have I really just got a duff d300 or lenses lol.

It is rare that I don't sharpen.
If I don't sharpen, it is because sharpening has brought out unwanted noise.

I shoot in raw, and mostly with a pin sharp 10-20 and 24-60 and my shots still need sharpening.

I sharpen 90% of the time, and always shoot in raw also.

Anything in RAW will generally need a sharpen of some sort, I vary the amount using the unsharp mask in photoshop as required

Cool makes me feel a bit better-think they will get it right one day so we pay thousands of pounds and just have to tweak the colour or something lol

you can have the camera do it all for you, but then you're bound by the options the camera has... far better to use the computer and control exactly what you want

Everything is turned off in camera and done during RAW converting and PP...

True-just when i first got dslr after some years without one-people told me i was sharpening too much because in actual fact it was my software cocking it up so i switched to nx and its ok but made me paranoid to sharpen at all.
