If so, what do you like/dislike about this lens.

Do you have pictures taken with it? If so please post them, i'd like to see what it's capable of, i'm considering purchasing this lens tomorrow. :)
 
I really love what I have seen from this lens, the photos and clarity is amazing and best of all it gives bokeh <3
 
I used to have it and it took some good pics, i ended up getting the Canon 70-300 IS mainly for the stabiliser.

Here is a pic taken on its macro setting

Aye, i don't use it much but it's generally good i think, sometimes it won't focus (auto) when I'm trying to use it which annoys me but who knows, that could be me!
 
The lens is actually quite small, the Canon IS version is a lot beefier.

Yep i bought it from Jessops in December for £120 i think.
 
I used to have one a while back. Can't say enough good things about it, it was superb. Very sharp and stunning colours and contrast. The only downside was the slow AF, it was fast enough for airshows etc but might be a bit slow for motorsports...?
 
It's so damn expensive on Jessops, I'm going to purchase it from warehouse express, I can't find it cheaper than that anywhere.

I am so glad to hear you say that, I will be using it mainly for macro, wildlife and portraits :D
 
I have it, it's great. I only wish it was faster..

You can get the non APO version for about £120-130 if you can't afford the APO version.

Most things in Jessops are over priced anyway...
 
Na Jay i'm getting the APO version, £178 I can afford, my brothers paying :lol:

I've seen what the APO version is capable of I am persistent now.

It isnt that bad for motorsport TBH. It is the lens I use!! Look on my site for pictures of motorsport I have done with it.

Matt, your photos seem a little soft, is it camera shake or lens performance?
You took that moon shot with this lens? Are you serious?

The macro stuff would have benifited from a better shutter speed and a tripod. TBH. SO yeah, they are a touch soft but witha bit of practice I reckon they would be sharper :)

Well, it is a crop :lol:

They were taken nearly a year ago so I cant remeber LOL. More than likely, though. I cant get that close to them without them flying off!!!!
 
Interesting, you should try reversing your kit lens to get sharper macro shots :D
 
im not sure if its the same company, but im sure i was going to order from them and was told that all items are sent from hong kong and take a while, thats why there fairy cheap

You should do your research before ordering on websites you don't know about, search around this forum, and of course, google.

It's not that easy to hold a camera at 300mm with the Macro setting without any support, you would ideally want to have a tripod, monopod or some support.

From threads I've seen here loads of people have had problems, the despatch times are basically lies and several have demanded refunds and ordered elsewhere. I wouldn't touch them with a stinky stick tbh. It is apparently overseas stock too so perhaps dodgy on the UK warranty too - can't say I've seen anyone recommend shopping with them as a good idea.

Just what I've seen though - your experience could be different/better with them?
 
See, I am considering buying this now...possibly!

It's either this lens or the 55-200mm f/4-5.6 AF-S VR DX Zoom-Nikkor Lens.

What would be more suitable for wildlife/sports photography?

on the jessops site and warehouse express it says it does have a motor for nikon D40.

Please anyone know whats the difference in the sigma to the tamron of the same spec?
barring the price.
 
I ordered this lens from Hong Kong for £155 with free postage, I will let you guys know if I get charged for import and VAT :|
 
i use to own the siggy 70-300 and sold it after a few days, cant remember why but i did, i have now got another one from TP and after a play with it i will be keeping it. it offers some great DOF at f4
 
I've got one off here with motor and I really like it, It's not as bulky as you'd think. As said the autofocus is a bit slow sometimes but you really can't complain at that price!!

Hey guys, I thought i'd let you all know that my lens arrived from HK on Wednesday and I didn't get charged. I am so happy, £155 and free postage for a lens that was costing over £180 elsewhere.

But to your question they are good yes,
 
I had the Nikon fit APO D version (the DG added HSM, but optically was the same).

On my Nikon D70 and D80 (which replaced the former under insurance) it was fine, never had any AF performance or hunt issues. I found the images could be a little soft, but not too bad, macro function seemed to work well for me as well.

When I replaced my D80 with my D300 I promptly found that the levels of softness increased drastically (even with AF tuning), which resulted in my start in upgrading my glass.
 
This lens is my current long lens. I was thinking of upgrading (?) to the Nikkor 70-300 VR, but cant justify it yet.

Top and bottom were with D200, middle was D70S.

The AF could be a tad faster I think, but have nothing to compare it with.
