Yes
Flash Qualifications before you can start to charge people for your work.

For example Do you need a city in guilds qualification? or fancy letters after ** name?

its just I know some people naturally have a tallent for certian things and other people can self teach them selfs and also learn as they go.

personally i have gained more knowledge and experience from working in IT than I ever did at uni and college. But before I went to college I had a good grasp of computers.

just a question that floating around in my head.

Mike

No, the quality of your work should speak for itself:)

Those who can, do. Those who can't, go get qualifications so they can pretend they do...

No.

A proper answer would be..........if you are looking to be self employed then no. Talent and a good portfolio are the entry level qualifications. Then you need to be able to run a business. Sales and marketing, business planning etc.

If you want to work in photography in a hospital or forensics, yes, you will need qualifications.

yeah that is what I thought, just I was talking to a tog at the weekend who was doing a wedding I was at.

he was rattling on about all his qalifications and it got me wondering do you need them to take a good picture. I easily answered it once I saw his work....NO lol

I had my 400d with no flash and the sigma 24-70 f2.8 lens and I was getting better pics than he was. I was shooting in full manual even in the church

All the guests at the wedding liked my pics and placed orders right there and then, even withou seeing the edited pics LOL

As i said it was just a thought

Read any of the pro mags or look on the strobist site.

Any good pro will tell you you need to take care of the business side. Simply taking good pics is not enough.

i understand that from talking to people about good and bad experiences they have had with togs at weddings and also party's etc.

for example the wedding I was at during the weekend the bride and groom met with the tog a week before to finilise the details and also go over the shots they wanted to capture.

needless to say he ignored all they requested and was a bit pushy during some of the shots.

I think I conduct myself in a good mannor and I am aprochable and freindly. I think this a good basis for talking to people and making them feel at ease

Whilst I agree the above is wrong, its also right. The tog doing 10 or 20 weddings a year will know from experience what works better than others even if they're not the best photographer in the world.

I bet someone like that is always getting strange requests that he knows won't work.

On the other hand, if a client ever feels like they have been ignored, it'll be the photographers loss, not the client as word of mouth stops right there.

I've no qualifications, and in 3.5 years have never been asked by clients if I have any - even when I was starting out.

Photographers for some reason seem to place more value on these than their customers.

Major mistake :) Ask people what they want and they feel obliged to think of something. Spoils all your fun.
