Yes
I will be using a combo of a 50D and 70-200 F4L and i was wondering if i would be able to use this on a tripod without a tripod ring as it's not very heavy or should i buy one?

I'd buy one if I were you - its quite a heavy combo and the camera tripod mount will give droop and probably put quite a lot of stress on the bolt.

I got a cheap knockoff from ebay and it works perfect - don't bother spending the £80 or whatever they want for the official Canon ones.

I use my 70-200F4L on a 40D without a tripod ring, and not had any droop problems on my manfrotto tripod and head.

Thanks guys,

I'll go for the cheaper tripod mount like the one above.

Regards

Scott

I've got a tripod ring and have never bothered with it on the 70-200. It's easily light enough to handhold for normal stuff.
