Yes
For a few weeks I have been doing some work with the Royal Anglian Regiment Benevolent Charity who are my 'local' regiment, unfortunately the regiment has suffered a serious of casualties in Afghanistan as I am no doubt you are aware of. As someone who is grateful for the hardships they are enduring and as a photographer I would like to able to show my appreciation and to that end I have offered to cover a wedding free of charge for a regiment member who has been wounded.

Earlier today I was contacted by Lt. Simon Broomfield who had been given my details by the regimental welfare officer as he is getting married on 3 July this year in Somerset. Simon was seriously injured and two of his soldiers died in Afghanistan as a result of an explosion which occurred in an area approximately 20km north of Musa Qal'ah district centre, Helmand province. At the time of their incident the soldiers were part of the Household Cavalry Regiment Battle Group and they were on an operation inserted deep into Taliban territory, attacking the insurgents where they least expected it. Simon was unable to attend one of his colleagues funerals due to his injuries but he is now able to walk having undergone some skin grafts and other procedures.

I have been in touch with some suppliers re albums etc and if they are not forthcoming I would like to be able to ask for donations from the photographic community to help pay for albums, canvases and related products but before that happens I would like to hear of any suppliers you could recommend that might be able to help out. As I say, it just ideas I am after at the moment as my suppliers may be able to help - hopefully with some freebies but even a generous discount would help.

I would also like to thank Simon Revill who is going to work alongside me for this wedding so with a bit of luck we might get a couple of decent shots. :D

I can't recommend any suppliers, but it may be worth contacting The Sun paper, they are heavily involved in Help For Hero's. If you could get them to agree to write a small article on the wedding and to mention any suppliers that donate free items it would give you a bargaining chip with suppliers.

EDIT:
I also used to work for one of the leading picture frame companies in the UK until they were run in to the ground by neew owners. I'll try and get the names of some suppliers of mounts and frames for you.

Good idea, I'll have a think about the best way to approach it.

Thanks for that.

Sams labs are offering TP members £10 worth of products for free (for first time orders) - you only pay postage costs. They might be a bit more generous due to the nature of the work if you talk to them.

Thanks johnsy, it is certainly one to bear in mind.

You and Simon covering the wedding - should be an awesome album that, good on the pair of you.

Great Idea , I dont know of any suppliers who may be to help but being an ex soldier myself would like to get the ball rolling and offer £10 towards costs of the day.

Let me know how you want it paid

Thanks and well done to you both

Thanks Lawrie!

Here is one of the leading picture frame manufacturers in the UK:

They will probably do mounts as well.

Great stuff, thank you!

Thank you very much for your kind offer. Hopefully we will not require any donations but if we do I might just take you up on that! I really appreciate it.

Thanks for the PM's I have received as well with some very generous offers, it is gestures like that restore your faith in humanity.

I'll be amazed if you don't get sufficient goodies from suppliers for a cause such as this. But, if you do come up short, please drop me a mail/pm and I'd like to sponsor (via my company) some aspect of this operation. An album, maybe, frames, print costs  Being a Somerset lad and an ex-soldier I'm keen to help. Even if he is a Rupert.

Thank you very much John.

I'm glad that Colin asked me to help out - I can't think of a better use of a free Saturday !

Good to have you on board!

I can't add anything myself (bar some cash should you need it) but think it's a fantastic thing to do.

Happy to bump you for the cause hacker! :)

Colin, I'm sure the support will come flooding in for this cause

I'm sure I speak for the others when I say Tp would be proud to offer some support to the cause.

Firstly Colin and Simon, well done, it's an honourable and decent thing you're doing. My personal experience of trying to get goodies out of people for good causes is that begging letters/emails are all too easily ignored, try and find a local supplier and turn up on their doorstep. Much harder too come across as a cold hearted ******* in the flesh:thumbs:

I wouldn't bother with The Sun unless you like urinating on your own trousers.

Best of luck.

Have just read this Colin and it`s great what you are doing. I have two albums which have never been used. They were gifts to us but we never used them, you might think they are a bit tacky for your needs, but I will look at them again as I cannot remember what they are really like. Anyway they are as good as yours if you get stuck

I have nothing to offer for this guys, I wish I had. May I just say what a fine and generous thing you are both doing, you are both to be applauded.......

Thank you very much for all your support, it is appreciated. Compared to what the potential groom and his colleagues have gone through we are doing nothing in comparison, just giving up a bit of our time.

KevM, thanks for that, I've already directly approached a localish supplier for the album and hopefully they will cooperate, I am hopeful as I have just made the switch to them for all albums etc. Obviously they will get plenty of mentions once everything has been finalised.

Again, both Simon and I appreciate all the support we've had.

We now have an album being supplied free of charge and I'd like to say a big thank you to Lee and Lisa of Sim2000 Imaging for this very generous offer.

Great news Colin, and Good on you, I'm sure you and Simon will fill it with fantastic photos!!!

.......Perhaps even one or two you took yourselves  ;)

 Great Gesture Guys!

Thats really good to hear if you still need any donations for the extras please put me on your mail list
Bob

Cheers Andrew!

Thanks Bob, that's very kind of you.

Cheers Andrew!

No problem Colin, I'm always happy to insult anyone

Seriously though, I know you've said you hope donations are not required but if it comes down to it, drop me a PM or call me and I'll stick my hand in my pocket for you. This is certainly a deserving cause, especially after what they've both gone through in just getting to this stage.

Good on you and Simon for agreeing and organising this.

Thanks Andrew, I do appreciate it. I spoke to the bride today and she was very appreciative and quite emotional. Because of the distances involved (3+ hours each way) and the fact that Simon and I are keen to document the whole day we are traveling down the night before and will be returning on the Sunday, they have kindly offered to sort out our accommodation so at least we will be fresh on the morning of the wedding (as long as Mr Revill has a shower :D). They have also insisted we stay for a few drinks so it would be churlish to refuse. ;)

I'd just like to say thank you again for all the messages of support and offers we have had.

Beginning of the month - so quite possible.....

I am quite surprised that the photographic industry haven't swamped this with offers of free product....

Whatever the views on conflict - these guys are out there for us and risk far more then we could imagine.

So a big thumbs up to Lisa at Sim2000 .....

I am also quite surprised Simon, some good exposure is available to suppliers, yet very few have taken it on board...........

I can supply some cooked pheasants if needs be.......:)

I am surprised someone from Canon or Nikon hasn't offered a kit trial....(hint hint)

pretty sure you have the kit covered, but if you are short of anything just post it up
I'd be happy to loan anything I have that you need

Don't forget my pm Colin. Should you need to...

Kev.

Mike, thank you for the offer, it is appreciated!

Cheers Kev, I haven't forgotten!

Colin

As per PM - togsPrint.com will happily do a 24in x 36in stretched canvas for the couple. We will also do a couple of our premium framed prints at 10x8 for them/their families.

I have family in the armed forces who frequently visit Afghanistan. One of whom now suffers from PTS. Happy to do all we can for them.

Lee, that is fantastic and thank you very much! Your generosity will be very appreciated.

 nice one lee.

and once again, well done Colin and Simon for getting this organised!
