Do you ever think of swapping between Canon and Nikon

I thought only the yanks had a problem understanding sarcasm. ;)

Sorry Eddy but 12MP is ample to print at high quality A3, even with a sensible amount of cropping.

If you find your cropping heavily, then rather than switch brands or yearn for an extra few MP, then invest in a lens that will offer you the range you need.

There is no rationale in Nikon churning out subtle upgrade after subtle upgrade with a slightly larger resolution being the most notable feature.

Time, resource and money is far more intelligently spent elsewhere, like trying to rodger us blind with new lens prices :'(

And your point is?

Whether people make prints or not is totally up to them. Whether most people own a camera that boasts 12MP is utterly irrelevant.

If your an experienced photog however then you'll know that the glass is the first port of call when range is becomes an issue.

I don't think it helps when you get used to one system and then pick up another, try to use it and go cross eyed because you don't know where anything is.

I remember picking up a D70 and wondering what crazy planet the menu designers came from. To a Nikon user it's obvious but to a Canon user with 4 bodies it's completely alien.







I don't like aliens.
 
I shoot Canon for film and Nikon for digital purely because of what was the most appropriate at the time of buying the camera in terms of functionality, glass and cost.

I have a foot in both camps so I hope I don't get caught on the fence!
 
By the way, for the enthusiast, I think there is no difference between the two. For the pro, the difference is all about what context you use the camera for. How do the models compare when looking at readings of sagittal plane / media plane etc.

It's what you use it for that counts for what my opinion is worth.
 
I don't like the Nikon numbering system. It doesn't make sense! :p

Seriously though, I would like to give a Nikon system a go for a day or two, but other than that I've no real interest in switching systems.

Besides, there aren't any red rings on Nikkors!

FWIW, I've been using Canon cameras for thirty years now, so not likely. :)

Thought about it when I bought my first DSLR (and indeed my first autofocus camera) in 2004, but Nikon didn't have a full frame offering to move to at the time and the 300D was more affordable than anything they had.

I have a few other manufacturers' film bodies (mostly Mamiya and Yashica in various formats) and I'm occasionally tempted by an OM-1 or 2, but I've never really felt the need for a Nikon apart from an SP rangefinder that I probably couldn't afford.
 
I can see the benefits of a Nikon system, but Canon also has benefits, changing each time one noses ahead sounds like a great way to waste a load of money though!

I could be tempted to move to Hasselblad though, but I think I'd have to keep the 35mm gear.
 
My equipment already outweighs by abilities and couldn't afford it even if I wanted to

When my daughter wanted to buy a DSLR encouraged her to buy the same brand as myself so we could share lenses and a change would defeat that idea too.

So a big fat NO from me
 
My main 35mm cameras were all Olympus. At the time of buying a DSLR I was seriously considering the D70, (always wanted to try a Nikon), but the guy in the shop said the 350D was the better option.

Having progressed through a 30D, (now a spare), to a 5DMkII i really don't feel the need to change. Other than I'm never really 100% happy with the focus on the 5D - seems soft.

I'd still like to try a Nikon though:thumbs:
 
I switched from canon to nikon, and find nikons need more finger dexterity than canons but its all about the image for me and I prefer the "look" of nikon images and nikons af, I always struggled with canon.

Played with a gripped 5D2 today - the guy who owns it forgot to bring the extra finger that Canon obviously supply top access the rear command dial when it's in vertical format. Properly frustrating when it produces such good IQ but ot's pooh design IMO. Don't think I'll swap my D2.....

Don't want to move to Canon and not even considered it since touching up the 350D vs D70. But now, I did consider Pentax as I like being by myself and being unique (I think that is what they call it or lonely), and also considered moving to Sony the cheapness was really appealing.

But then I woke up in a sweat and saw I still have my D7000...Phew :devil:
