I tick the box, because Jedi knight isn't thereHow do you define 'Christian'?
If you tick a box on a form does that indicate you are truly a believer and follow the Christian teachings?

I suspect that you are very much not aloneI tick the box, because Jedi knight isn't there![]()
It's the only quantitative measurement we haveHow do you define 'Christian'?

Out of interest, why not no religion?I tick the box, because Jedi knight isn't there![]()
Indeed, but I think Alistair was questioning the validity of the measurement ... as do IIt's the only quantitative measurement we haveunless you prefer an unsubstantiated internet opinion.
The force is with usI suspect that you are very much not alone![]()
Because John Lennon said "Imagine no religion too"Out of interest, why not no religion?
Only by apathy, i.e. no one has given enough of a f**k to make a push to deestablish the status quo.
Measured by attendance and viewing figures most premier league clubs have a significantly better claim to be nominated as the state religion.

Because John Lennon said "Imagine no religion too"
I never did like the Beatles!
But seriously I was Christened CoE
and tend to tick that box,
as Hypocrite isn't there either![]()
And oddly, I am not a Christian yet I consider my self a Christian. Go figureYou don't necessarily have to attend church on a weekly basis to be a Christian or a season ticket holder to be a football fan.
Takes a bowLol and Cobra has just proven your point.
No need to apologisethat kind of behaviour is illogical to my Germanic mind
What's the saying?yet I consider my self a Christian
I don't know the saying, but yes exactly that. I never forgot the quote of a priest at a church event, he may have had a few drinks, but loosely it was along the lines of that my views and behaviour was more Christian than many who were baptised. Or something along those lines. What's the saying?
something about you don't have to believe in God to live the life of a Christian?
( or something like that anyway)
Out of interest, why not no religion?

Lol but could also be interpreter that those 25% who didn't tick the box areWhich further supports the view that not everyone ticking the box for Christian is thus![]()
I would suggest that you can separate being a Christian, from being religious, these days certainly.Which further supports the view that not everyone ticking the box for Christian is thus![]()
I still find it a shame my parents choose Jean-Paul over Jean-Christophe. I think I should have been JC. :smile:I would suggest that you can separate being a Christian, from being religious, these days certainly.
Although of course the literal translation is follower of Christ,
Which by some quirk of fate is the literal meaning of my first / given / Christian name also![]()

I'm hurtI could never agree with you there,
Well sort of, "You" (Generic) may help someone that's fallen in the street, or drop a few quid into a homeless man's pot, that would be classed as the Christian thing to do.I would agree that using the title Christian has little or no meaning for many, many people using it,(which maybe what you meant).
Oh cock, got to think before I postThere can only be one Jeremy Clarkson.
Yep...that's the fella (though interchangeable with the other oneOh cock, got to think before I postgood point well made.
You can leave your seat and go outside, then comeback in when the adverts have finished. No-one is forcing you to remain in your seat. There is nothing in the law that says people shold not be offended.
I find it is more offensive to to be held captive to watch commercial adds in cinemas.
They are not, but do advertise the movie starting at the wrong time. If I had known I would have arrived 30 minutes later. First loads of commercials, then trailers, and then more ads to say there is enough time to get some popcorn or stinky nanchos. And then the movies finally begins. So annoying. You can leave your seat and go outside, then comeback in when the adverts have finished. No-one is forcing you to remain in your seat.

Just as a heads-up, if you go to the BFI, the film starts at the advertised time. They are not, but do advertise the movie starting at the wrong time. Disrespectful and false?Wouldn't consider claiming to be a Jedi. It's stupid, disrespects the importance of a census (and is actually illegal to make false declaration on a census).
Disrespectful and false?
I'm not so sure![]()
Fully agree, besides the facts, I think it is disrespectful and arrogant to argue against what someone else states their religious conviction is. If someone is self declaring to be a Jedi then that is fine with me. I would prefer is over Scientology, Catholicism, Islam etc...Actually I wish more are Jedi's.Disrespectful and false?
I'm not so sure
In England and Wales 390,127 people (almost 0.8%) stated their religion as Jedi on their 2001 Census forms, surpassing Sikhism, Judaism, and Buddhism, and making it the fourth largest reported religion in the country.
In Australia more than 70,000 people (0.37%) declared themselves members of the Jedi order in the 2001 census
In the 2001 census, 21,000 Canadians put down their religion as Jedi Knight.
Over 53,000 people listed themselves as Jedi in New Zealand's 2001 census.
In Scotland, 14,052 people stated that Jedi was their current religion
Oh there are a lot out there, but you just don't "see" us we keep ourselves to ourselves..............Actually I wish more are Jedi's.
I don't understand this Jedi thing, am I missing something?

Anakin Skywalker was thought of as the chosen one. He was borne of a virgin birth.
His existence in modern culture is just as relevant as the existence of Jesus. No harm was done by anyone declaring they were a jedi on the census.
And of course he had to follow the (death) star and was helped along the way by wise men baring giftsAnakin Skywalker was thought of as the chosen one
If you want to break it down, there is an all encompassing force that binds the universe together,
Making everyone and everything inextricable linked.
Not that much different from the spiritual beliefs of the Native Americans
If you hit the google button you will see that answer to that is a resounding yesis this an actual faith or religion and does the person actually follow said faith or religion?
