Since last night I have been on a bit of a hunt to find the perfect place to live.

I want to live somewhere with fantastic scenery on the doorstep (literally if possible), I don't even mind where. I'd like a little cottage preferably all on one floor, detached with no neighbours for a fair distance. But this place needs to be cheap, less than £300pcm cheap.

I have visions of waking in the morning and stepping outside to seeing rolling country side before me. Hopefully even a stream or small river. I don't mind being in the middle of nowhere so long as there is electric to charge my scooter and power my wireless internet as well as a phone line and mains water:lol:.

Do places like this still exist? Do you know someone renting out such a property long term?

Have you woken up from your dream yet Jo... looks like you've been posting on here whilst dreaming... :)

You don't want much do you?

Alnwick consistently comes out as one of the best places in the UK to live, and Northumberland should be able to come up with property prices and countryside to suit your budget.

You may find mains water an issue, and possibly electricity, depending on how far out you want to go.

Edit: Just noticed you want all one floor, that's more a Scottish thing, but presumably you can find it near the border too.

I know :( it sounds a bit dreamy/none realistic doesn't it?

I'll potter off and have a look at Northumberland in a mo. I've had brief look in Scotland, I'll go and be a bit more thorough. Cheers!

the cotswolds, just not for £300pcm, try nearer £1000pcm

definately worth looking at wales. Dunno if tis link will work, but single storey, 3 mles from Brecon 280pcm - only on a 6 mth lease but shows these places are available

Ahh, now that would be almost perfect if they allowed pets and it was for longer than 6 months *sigh* Thanks though! Another area I hadn't thought of :)

I'l have a look for you:thumbs:

Have you tried the Falkland Islands?? ;)

Have you tried the Falkland Islands?? ;)

I think that only succeeds on the single story bit, but from what I've heard it is a bit bleak.

my immediate thought was Tristan da Cunha, but you do have neighbours, just not many of them, and after those the next ones are 1300 miles away. They have excellent comms, all satellite and very cheap, but they aren't very keen on immigrants.

Dorset scores very highly on the best places to live front and has all the scenery but you won't get the prices here that you get in Northumberland or Wales or Scotland.

Some very good suggestions folks, so thanks :D I'm still looking. Also just to say; it was more of a serious question than seems to have come across.

I'd have to support the Northumberland suggestion, I'd be off up there tomorrow if I could get a similar job.... And there are some very nice places around Alnwick.

Tent and Generator?

have you tried the cotswolds? if you don't mind it being a (very) little cottage i think that £3-500 pcm may (that's a very just may) be possible!

I agree with Northumberland too, beautiful countryside.

Come to Scotland Jo - it's got everything you need !

There are some reasonably priced places to live - check out these guys for example - although a little over your £300 a month budget you get an idea what's out there

Try Derbyshire.

Paul

Get one of these
