No
I may be going for a couple L lenses and with the cashback available ATM, Panamoz works out around £80 cheaper than going somewhere like WEX.

Now, i figure i could phone up a couple places and ask if they'd do a deal, but am i wasting my time, or is there somewhere that'll do a better deal usually than somewhere else?

£80 saved in the context of what total spend?
Lack of VAT and duty makes grey importing beneficial to the buyer, but I wonder how many have actually bothered to phone WEX or the like, and ask if they can be a bit keener.
There may simply not be the margin for them to do so, but if you don't ask, you won't get.
If they can move, don't necessarily expect a price match, but if they knock £30 off, consider it rather than dismissing it out of hand.
Keeps the money in the UK's economy, and a local business in profit (hopefully).

the price displayed of anything for sale is merely an "Invitation to treat" in contract law.
In essence, you can have this camera/dishwasher/chicken pie for £x if you want it.

There is no contract forumed until you exchange cash... so yes every price is negotiable, even for your food shopping (in theory).

Remember cash back may not be paid on overseas purchases.. Check the terms and conditions carefully...

I haggle on everything outside of food shopping! I've gotten money off tvs, stereos, camera gear ... and if not money off, got something thrown in extra for free. I don't care if it's only a set of headphones or a screen cleaning kit - I'll be happy knowing I got something extra in the deal. Plenty of shops about selling electrics, may as well have a go at a haggle. If they point blank wont shift, go elsewhere.

Ok guys, thanks.

Just to decide if its worth going new or used.

The £80 difference is after the cashback on the UK lenses. I know the import lenses won't get the cashback.

For that difference in price I wouldn't even contemplate buying grey. The UK warranty has got to be worth that.

But it's always worth asking if that's the best deal they can do. Especially if it's an independent dealer.

Yep and secondhand would save around £200-250, so not a massive difference there, but still a difference.

Yes they all do Cash is King.............

Not so much for large companies these days. Cash costs money to process, because private security firms have to collect and process it on their behalf. Card payments go straight into the bank, minus the fees of course. The processing costs for cash don't give the retailer any incentive to do 'deals' for cocky punters, because they'll lose out.

I always haggle...
Go in with an idea of what the best online price is, have an idea what the convenience of a shop/uk warranty is worth to you, have a chat with them and see how helpful they are... And make a decision based on that.. But if haggling hard you must be prepared to walk away..

Oh, and *always* try and build a rapport with the salesperson.. Helps no end!

Good luck!

I went into my local camera shop with a webpage printout, and haggled they got close enough to the price so made my purchase there, probably a good move as I went back and bought a new camera there a year later.

Cash is these days a PITA! Debit card charges are cheaper than banks' processing charges for cash (unless the business owner wangles free banking [hint, FSB]). I know one gentleman who, if he receives a cash payment for his goods, pockets the cash and uses his own debit card for the payment.

Always worth a bit of a haggle - this morning, I got the Apple store to price match HMV's in store price even though HMV didn't have the goods in stock! I could have saved another tenner by getting the thing from Amazon but I wanted it NOW!
