Do people really need to Spit?

Just been out with the dog on her walkies, and some dirty git did a filthy big spit right on the path that I was about to walk on. Also is there really any need to make all that noise like that when you spit? The woman who was with him was very well dressed and looked pretty classy, wonder why she does not tell him off?

So come on, do you do this ? :rolleyes:
 
Many people wish for britain to return to the great old days, when spitting was acceptable.
 
Agree John. There is is never, as in NEVER, any reason to spit.

Yes, when I am out for a run sometimes I need to.
 
I do it occasionally when on the road bike.
But there is a huge difference between making a song and dance spit in front of people and being discrete with your timing and manorism.
If i need to spit for whatever reason i go withthe latter option.
 
Worse than spitting is when someone closed one nostril and blows the contents of their head out of the other.
They should be made to scrape it up and eat it.
 
Blame footballers, disgusting behaviour.

It knocks my missus sick, she uses a wheel chair and occasionally gets it on her wheels, this then transfers onto her hands. She always carries a small bottle of hand sanitizer in her bag, for just such occasions. :)

I'd have to disagree about 'swearing', maybe using the f word like a vocal tick, which is akin to the ubiquitous 'like' or 'y'know' or similar is a bad habit and unnecessary.

However having our vocabulary trimmed of hundreds of great words just because someone else has decided they're 'swear words' is the height of f***wittery.

Can you give an example? I bet I wouldn't even recognise them as swear words, I was primarily about the f word but other rather crude ones exist. I never forget the family that arrived at a villa below us in Spain, they driven from the UK, upon arrival one of their boys immediately jumps in the pool with all his clothes on and his mum addresses him as

You f*****g little c***, get the f*** out of the f*****g pool. Act like a f*****g 8 year old, you little c***.
 
Spitting can really put you off a person. My mum used to love the Spaghetti western films, and loved one of the Actors. Not sure what actor it was, Clint Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef possibly. Anyway she loved the actor up until the part when he was chewing tobacco, he did a big spit right on a dog's head. She called him a dirty B****** and never liked him since, can't recall her ever watching his films again :)

You're absolutely right about the mum in your story, I alluded to that kind of use of the F word.

But I thought I'd already given a charming example of 'creative' swearing in my post.

Yes they should fix their profanity filter or put an exclusion in, just like they do for Scunthorpe and Penistone.

@Admin I think @Phil V has a very good point and f***wit and associated terms should be reinstated :)
 
Some cultures seem to regard spitting as perfectly normal - I think the only time I spit is sometimes when I'm jogging, or when cycling, but not normally when just walking along the street (unless i got something nasty in my mouth like a bug or something!). In terms of "pollution" there are far more polluting things people often do in everyday life.

Possibly some Oriental Countries I could mention, but maybe best not to do so.
 
I get to see that all the time around here as my street is like an access point between the beach and the rest of the town. As a result, I get to do the phlegm slalom while on the way to the town centre.

It's as if most of us had turned into this dog (I think everyone over the age of 40 will get this) . . .

Only in a dentist surgery setting. It's not like the dentist tells you to go gob in the street.
Saying that spitting in the dentists normalises spitting in general is like saying peeing in a bathroom normalises peeing in the street.
 
Is Spitting on the street in the UK an offence normally? Just done a quick search, and stories come up such as. Fined for spitting under the anti social behaviour, while another person was done for spitting under the littering offence. Surely it should be under the Health and safety act, if a person were to get done that is. Well spit can contain harmful germs I assume. Plus some big gobbies could be slipped on :rolleyes:
 
Some towns / cities have bylaws making it a specific offence.

Interesting observation. Dog dirt seems a far worse problem than a little bit of phlegm on the streets of every town and city I've ever visited in the UK. I'll happily spit if the need arises, but discreetly, and where it won't cause others problems.

Two wrongs doesn't make it right. At least a dog is an animal, given the chance it would s*** in the living room. Would you spit, discreetly, in your living room?
 
I'd go to the bathroom. Like Cambsno, I'm a runner and cyclist, and there are times it's necessary to clear the throat and mouth. It's not wrong, provided it's done in a way and place (i.e not the middle of the pavement or on your settee) where it won't inconvenience people.

So using that logic, someone could let their dog poop in the woods off the beaten track where it won't inconvenience anyone, and not pick it up, and that's OK?

Have not conducted any scientific tests but am sure if I was to spit on a pavement you would struggle to find trace of it a couple of hours later while dog poo would still be there. Totally different.

So long as that is done, then there really is not a problem. Just annoys me when people spit, in ahem spitting distance of me :). It has happened a few times when someone has spit just paces from me, almost looks as though it was done as an insult. I have had my suspicions once or twice :bat:

Indeed, but that doesn't make it right or any less disgusting.
