I recently bought my self a 100-400mm canon lens and a canon 50D,

So now my other camera 400D is sitting in its bag with the 75 300 lens looking sorry for itself as its not going to get used.

I notice alot of people on here have two or more bodies, and was really wondering why, ok I know wedding togs and other pro's have them for back up purposes but surley not everyone on here is a pro with two bodies.

I do not really need to sell them but it seems a waste to see them sitting doing nothing. There was a thread on here yesterday asking for a 400D but I just could not bring myself to type in i had one. Plus the price thing is a little hard as what is it worth etc etc.

My question is what would you do in my position?????

I'd get rid of 75-300mm straight away. You won't use it ever again. 400D future could be debatable, but I'd rather get at least 20D instead when you really need a backup. Sell both.

Depends how much you need the money. In my bag at present I have 10d/50d/1dmk2, bought in that order (not including the wife's 400). I was/am going to get rid of the 10d and keep the other two, mainly because if one breaks/needs a service I will still have a camera.
A plethora of lenses and not mentioning the old film cameras, which I really should sell, but everytime I pick them up its like seeing an old friend. For what I could get for them doesnt justify selling them.
All down to how much you need the money, how disciplined you are to sell your old stuff and how much a horder you are :)

Sorry forgot to mention that the 75-300 WILL be going reguardless, as you say will NEVER be used again.

Pointless having it sitting in a bag at home in my opinion. If you are not going to carry it round with you then it will be just as easy to visit a nearby camera shop to buy a replacement body should your main one fail rather than use the 400d reluctantly. Money in the bank or put towards more glass FTW :)

Having two bodies would mean you could have two different lenses fitted for say if you were taking a close ups along with your usual long shots. No dust into camera swapping lenses and more shooting options.

Mistake #1 you should at least be hyping the lens up a bit and saying how reluctant you are to letting the lens go :lol: = £££

I kept my 350d after upgrading to the 40d a year or more ago. I still use the 350d from time to time, mainly when travelling. It is light, small (for a dSLR) and still takes great images.

Bottom line is that the second hand value of the 350d body is worth les to me than the occational use I get out of it.

I guess it depends on what you do with your photography. I'd love to afford 3 bodies, but the 3rd one is really pointless. 1 body has a 70-200 on all the time and the other has a 300 prime with teleconverter. Reasoning behind it is that anything can happen in motorsport and even the quickest of lens changes and you'll miss something important. It also reduces the possibility of dirt/dust getting in too.
