Do Jessops do deals..

Reckon they will do me a deal or throw any freebies in on buying a Canon 17-55 2.8. Any of you guys any experience dealin with them??
 
Not so much freebies but they do price match. It does however change store to store
 
As said above it seems to vary from store to store when i brought my d60 from about 18 months ago one store wont do stiff all. So i went to a slightly larger store who threw in a couple of cards and i was offered some filters for half the price of the offer that was going. If you don't ask you don't get.
 
You would have more chance getting blood out of a stone!

They wouldn't even throw in a £7 cleaning kit for me. Almost before I'd finished asking, the sales person just said 'No'.
 
No movement at all from them. Girl was rude as f#ck when I asked for a few quid off so walked out. She was uninterested in anything I said

That's exactly what I did the other week. As I said, I'd hardly finished asking when I was given a 'No'. Not 'No, sorry but we can't do that'. Just an aggressive 'No'. I said 'OK, I'll try somewhere else' and walked out!

I wasn't expecting them to say yes but they should know how to say 'No' with a little more courtesy!
 
I had the temerity to ask if they matched Amazon prices, only because they did when I bought my old camera from them a few years back

Assistant went into one about how it nearly did for them blah blah blah, when he had finished I mentioned that just a polite sorry no we don't would have been sufficient

Fair enough if they don't anymore, but wasn't too chuffed with his chucking the toys out nonsense. Went in to buy and only asked on the off chance, went elsewhere after that though
 
Seems crazy not to give the sales person some room to maybe even add a free cleaning kit or bag/card etc.

I always ask for some sweetener to clinch a deal on larger purchases.

If I don't get anywhere I simply say "I'll buy online as it's cheaper anyway, thanks".

When they then usually hit back at the perils of buying online I point out that I can buy from Amazon, save money AND if I don't like the product I can return it for a full refund and that usually shuts them up or they then make an offer.

Last time I went into the local Jessops though looking for a 70-200 L they directed me to a store 30 miles away as they didn't have any and wouldn't be getting any in. No offer to get one in for me.

I have to say, I've not had good experiences with deals anywhere. I've even been told that the price match information I've seen on the internet (and they were prepared to match it) was not what I saw an hour earlier. When I got home and checked again it was as I said it was. Not even a "sorry, we can't find it, where did you see it again" just a plain "no" - effectively calling me a liar. This was a small independent company too. Turned around and walked out. Not only did they lose that business that day, but they lost any future business I had (see below). Saved £100 (on £550) by buying off kerso in the end.

I've also just bought quite a bit of kit (7D plus two L lenses and an expensive EF-S lens). I rang around a couple of the usual suspects asking if they'd put a deal together but was refused. Ended up buying off kerso again - he was about 10% cheaper than anywhere else.

IMHO, you should ALWAYS be prepared to move on price on luxury goods to make the customer more inclined to buy and return again.
 
It seems to vary from store to store. My nearest branch in Maidstone normally says no but the one at Bluewater threw in a filter with my 40D and gave me discount on my tripod.

The branch near me are most unhelpful and then I went to the one in Moorgate and got a case thrown in on a purchase of a compact.
 
my experience of jessops staff is also completely useless - but then it's not their business, they're mostly just teenagers or whatever doing a saturday job so they don't care about you, photography or giving you a deal.

i remember asking about a CF card, i was told something along the lines that CF cards are for older cameras and they don't stock many, and the only one they did have was like 80 quid - i did ask if that was the 'best' price they could do, having seen the exact same one on 7dayshop for less than £30.... they wouldn't budge.


... and like you, they've lost all my business now, but it's not as though they stock much that's generally useful anyway, my local branch doesn't even carry the 70-200 f4 anymore, just a couple of random tamrons.

I went into my local Jacobs Digital and they (almost) price-matched the Sigma 30mm f1.4 to the cheapest place on the internet with stock... (£380 vs. £366).

Considering that was down from £408, I was very happy. Particularly as they were very nice and friendly.

Each time I go into Jessops, however, I feel like I'm going in to PC World, i.e. where stuff is over-priced, the staff know nothing and are either unhelpful or discourteous.

As such, Jacobs Digital gets my vote for a walk-in camera store.
 
I tried the same with SRS Microsystems in Watford for a refurbished D3S - they were asking for £2999 IIRC - I was prepared to buy the camera on the spot and thought a little discount might be in order on such a high ticket item. I got an aggressive 'no' even though they were asking exactly the same price on eBay and they would have saved a lot in eBay and Paypal fees. I walked away.
 
If you're just buying a single lens, you can't really expect them to automatically drop the price...

If you maybe start looking at filters for that lens, and are contemplating the jessops own brand ones, but are 'tempted' by the more expensive hoya filters, ask if maybe they could move a bit on the price of the more expensive filter... Or if you're buying a tripod and torn between one cheap and one expensive head for it... you get the gist.

basic negotiation is having something additional to offer them, not just saying 'I'm buying x, please can you throw in y for free'.
 
My (only) experience of Jessops so far was horrible. Being a public forum, I shall refrain from posting my comments on the semi-trained monkey I had to deal with. Needless to say, unless their price is lower than anywhere else for something, I won't entertain them anymore.
 
Similar experiences here, quality of service varies and I never had a freebie thrown in!
I do try to avoid mind you...
 
Agree with Jacobs over Jessops - best Jessops can do is to discount on the memory cards / accessories, but I've found Jacobs to price match without too much hassle. Of course, John Lewis is the best when it comes to price matching and service.
 
it must be branch to branch .i have no problems with my local one (Huddersfield). got discount on filters/cards and they even matched a deal on line for me. then offered the same deal in store. all the staff there are helpful too. no pushing into expensive stuff if you not need it. just good advice from them. when i got my Nikon with extra lens i thought the zoom was sticking so took it back.they opened other stock to check and asked me try each then swapped it over for me and contacted warranty company to change serial number.
i have no worries shopping with them again. it may cost a little bit more but i know i can just call in and get it sorted.
 
Taunton branch of Jessops has the London Camera Exchange virtually across the road from them

I flitted from one to the other looking for a best price on a new sigma lens and the Jessops monkey assistant said and I quote- " If you can buy the Sigma 10-20mm cheaper from London Camera Exchange, best you do that as our prices are fixed, sorry mate"

Guess where I bought the 10-20mm?? and it was £48 cheaper than jessops and LCE threw in a UV filter to suit for free

I now avoid Jessops like the plague:bonk:

The only deal I ever got at Jessop's was the deal where they take all my money. If your looking to save look for online purchase.
 
I went to the branch in sauchihall street in Glasgow for a canon ef 70-200 f2.8 l is sum mk 2 which at the time was 1800 I needed a filter swell the price came to 1830 I asked if he could throw the filter in for free so it would be a flat 1800 he said no.he done himself out of a good sale in my opinion I found out about kerso ordered delivered next day for 1620 I saved myself 200 so I thank the guy at jessops for saying no he saved me some hard earned cash :D
 
If your going to buy anything from Jessops, I'd recommend you order it online first. You will get a sales code and a confirmation email instantly. You will get a time sayiing when order can be picked up.

You pay for your order at the store that you choose to pick up for your goods.
I got £50 off my 550D and £30 off my Giottos tri-pod.

You can just ask them to order it for you in the shop if the shop are as helpfull as the shop near me.
