Yes
Right here we are people... The question of questions!

I've been borrowing my brothers Nikon D60 for a while because i can't afford my own at the moment.

I've been saving up for a Canon 40D

But i'm just thinking do I move to Canon? Or end up buying an upgrade nikon!

My eyes have been set on the 40D for sooo long...

But now im stuck in two worlds!

Here is my images; www.flickr.com/jake-lewis All done with the Nikon.

I'm actually going to be working in a rock nightclub so i have to get my own setup now :D

Cheers,

(also sorry for the weird sentance spacing. It's just the way I type on forums. For some obscene reason)

imo if your use to using a nikon you might aswell stick with it

Which feels better to use?

In terms of Image Quality, most dSLRs will give you acceptable IQ, but the 40d is capable of producing better results to the Nikon and the spec is far less limiting.

However, you may decide (as I did) that you can get by with the minimum and start to invest in good glass...

Cheers,
James

If you are going to be working in a nightclub, then you will probably end up needing to push the ISO so you will want a camera that can handle that best. You don't mention what your budget is, that might help us convince you that a Nikon is the better option :naughty: ;)

But who is to say he might not get on even better with the Canon? ;)

Go down to Jessops and try it in for size! See how it feels...if it's good, then get it :) At the end of the day they'll both give the same results!

do you have access to any decent nikon lenses you could beg/steal/borrow?

have you held the cameras and decided which works best for you?

I dont mind going second hand. But the budget at the highest has to be £800 and that's persuasion from the parents.

As already said, get down to a shop and have a play, but I would suggest a Nikon D90 with a lens as a good starter for what you want. Do try it gainst the canon and other equivalents though.

I've shot both. I've used a canon 40D at the London Metro Snow show. When I was shooting with my Nikon I got invited to try out the Canon's ;)

There isn't actually any specific reason I want either. I just love the way the new Canon's look. At the end of the day. I'll shoot with whatever god gives me!

But I need guidance ^_^ This is a big choice! It's like choosing whether you want arms or legs!

which camera did you prefer? what do you like shooting?

I forgot to add in my original post. That I am leaning Canon side. Just for the way they seem more. "Meaty"

I just want some advice to which would suit me more.

Esspecially for gigs!

Haha. I'm sorry but they do look a hell of alot sexier then Nikon's

:D

Nikon or Canon... it really doesn't make much difference. Personally I prefer Canon because I'm used to them and it would cost me too much to change sytems anyway.
But really you'd be far better off doing as purpleclouds suggested in post 6, go to Jessops and have a play with both. Then go with whichever feels best to YOU.

Bill your location, is it Barlick perchance?

Coming from a Mac (Canon) vs PC (Nikon).....(only joking! :D) perspective I can totally understand where you are coming from here.

Seriously - go and try both out and see what you prefer. I find the Canon menu system very intuitive, and they feel good, but then again I'm not very familiar with Nikons. Basically I'm Canon biased, but please don't let that persuade you.

Then why can't they bring the sexy design of the cars into the camera... xD

I'll head down to the local Jessops... With a gun and get both ;)

Nah. I'll give each one a go. Any other things which may want me to stay with Nikon. Or switch to Canon

Seriously though, forget what looks sexy, a camera is a tool made to do a job, and you should buy what suits your needs best for that job within your budget.

For gigs you may do better going for a D90 - one of the best low light cameras around at the moment apparently.

I have no preference for camera makes - I got Nikon when I got my DSLR as the D80 felt nicer in my hand than the 400D. So if you think the Canon feels better go for it.

However, there is a lot to be said for what you can borrow from your friends and family!!

Just done a quick research.

And i'm looking at the D90! Looks superb. I'm just not liking the 4.5fps.

But it does come with a better lens. Which I like as I don't have extra money to spend on lenses.

Hmmmm.....

;)

Ah major let down.

But i'm still on the search for the one

What kind of fps performance are you looking for then?

Well the main reason I was intrested in the 40D was for the quick FPS. Just because I wouldn't want to miss any action :D

But. In all honesty. I doubt the Continous shooting will be needed. But it would be nice to have such a fast FPS.

Sports, such as Kiteboarding.

And maybe a bit of landscape

I think 4.5fps would cope with kiteboards , they don't tend to move all that fast, neither do landscapes come to think of it

Agreed - well, unless you are on the kiteboard at the time, in which case the landscape might get a bit quicker

Haha, you'd be surprised how fast these things go ;)

"but the out right record is now kitesurfing at 50.2knots"

Which is about 60 mph ;)

But they do quite a speed.

Check youtube!

Well i'm deffo going to look futher into the D90

:D

Anyone know what the average 2nd hand price for these are?

probably more than they were new 4 months ago...
