Yes
RAM status while running spoitfy, lightroom and studiocloud. Lightroom really starts to toil at points.

In the process of running updates at the moment.

Lightroom is just doing basic photo editing, BUT it is pulling data from our macmini server which is connected to our raw files via USB 2.0.

Im not sure if its the USB connection to our RAW files which is slowing us down or the fact the mac only has 4GB or RAM? Might just upgrade both, a drobo system connected by firewire and 2x8GB additional RAM.

It could be, after you've finished pulling the raw files from your mac mini have another look. Not sure what the impact on CPU usage have a connection to another mac. I've got 4gb ram on my iMac n it never falters running several applications.

You can see by the page outs that you have exhausted the memory, so you are writing to disk.

I had 4gb on my last mac and was always getting slow down and plenty of page outs. Just bought a new one with 16gb and its lightning quick, always around 6-7gb free and 0 page outs.

If you mac can take more then I would always recommend it, just don't by ram from apple. Get it from crucial.

We don't pull them as such, theyre held on a HD which is connected via USB 2.0 to the macmini and the macmini is connected to the editing imac via the network. The RAW files stay on the HD and the Lightroom catalogues are hosted on the editing imac. Every-time I click to go to the next image LR freezes.

The more I think about it the more it seems obvious that the HD USB 2.0 is the limiting factor, swap that connection out with a firewire connection and the 'lag' should be reduced.....right?

Ive got an extra 16GB ordered anyhow and will consider the drobo if our month goes well. It'll make back ups a whole lot easier if nothing else.

IT is not my strong point....

4 gb is the bare minimum for lion. It's much better with 8. I'd get 16 if poss then it will fly!

Good. You have already

Agreed!

At £59.99 for 16GB of Crucial RAM for a mid 2011 iMac, it's rude not to :-)
