Yes
hi java keeps asking to update on my pc I remember reading something on here about it not being nessersary
I use the pc mainly for photo editing very rarely browse the net on it

Then you need it. Any experience on the web
will be enhanced with it… even on windows!

I think there may be some confusion between Java and JavaScript. They are entirely different things and unless you know you need Java, you don't need it. JavaScript is built into your browser and will be updated with the browser. My guess is you are talking about the annoying "Java updates" popup, in that case uninstall it.

Given the usage description, I was sure script was meant here!

LCPete is talking about Java, not Javascript - only Java has update popups. Java is rarely necessary for websites these days, and in fact it can be rather risky to enable it in the browser (I have Java installed, but disabled in the browser via the Java control panel). Whether you need it otherwise depends on whether you have any desktop applications built on Java. You could always uninstall it and see if this breaks anything. If you decide to keep Java, make sure it's always up to date, and disable it in the browser if you don't need it for anything specific on the web.

Edge doesn't use Java, Internet Explorer does.

Thanks everyone yes it's the message that comes up in windows 10 asking to update java
It does sound like I can uninstall it :)

Although I've casually suggested uninstalling java, on reflection that would be bad advice if you use your PC for something important that happens to need java! Searching quickly though my Program Files and Program File (x86) directories for *.jar files (a common way of distributing java programs) I see that I have LibreOffice and SPSS components in this format, so either of these applications would be broken if java is missing.
