hi, iv just brought my first sony a290 camera and lens

do i need anything eles to get started with? im a complete beginer.

do i need more lenses for diffrent pictures? flashgun?

any advice or tips on what to photgrapher first ?.
sorry for all questions lol. xxx

yes, you need a canon 5d mark 2 with at least 4 L lenses :D

depends what you want to take photos of - what interest you?

Most people buy a cheap 50mm prime as their 2nd lens if they are interested in portraits, others buy a wide angle if they want landscapes, others buy a telephoto if they want wildlife.

without saying what you are interested in it's hard to recommend

I am assuming that you have a bag to keep it in and a memory card.

Other than that, get out take some shots!!!

then as Joe says let us know what you wanna shoot.

Everyone needs to start somewhere! What do you want to take photos of? Portraits? Landscapes? Animals?

Aside from a bag and a memory card I'd invest first in another battery and lots of practice. Your first shots will be average, post what you think is the best on here and all these lovely people will give feedback as to how you can make an alright-ish shot amazing.

Then be prepared to be bitten by the togging curse and spend all your money on lenses

Hi Welcome.

Go to the library and get hold of a copy of "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson.

Read and go practice:)

hi, well my main intrests are portraits and landscapes.. umm

yeh got memory card and orderd a bag.
cant wait to get out and start snapping away :) x

Don't get too carried away with equipment at this stage.
Use what you have, take loads of pictures and be critical of them. Read all you can, try to find out what sort of pictures you like taking, and then you can work out what might be good to buy. As long as you are careful, you can buy secondhand and try then sell on after for little of any loss, which makes it fun and sort-of-affordable.
Ask questions, look at all the pictures you like and try to work out why you like them, and how they were taken. And enjoy photography !

thank you!
and will be reading taht book soon has i get my hands on it thanks again

Hello Hayley

I can tell you what has worked for me over the years. Essentially it comes down to a few really good books and lots and lots and lots of practice!

After a few decades at it (as a total amateur!) here is the absolute bottom line, IMHO:

1) SLR enthusiasts must know their equipment inside-out.

2) They must sense what goes where in the frame.

3) The craft of photography is the bringing together of practical training and creative vision.

And did I mention practice?

Happy shooting!
