No
Been musing over this for a coupla hours and haven't actually tried what I want to do with any of the kit I've got yet but here goes...

If I was wanting to take a series of images along the lines of those taken in light tents (smallish objects and looking to highlight textures etc) would I be best to use a good prime/zoom lens or should I consider a macro lens?

And any suggestions as to any good lenses for the job in hand (and for a canon) would be much appreciated!

Hmm...reading back this seems a real newbie question, sorry for that...

a decent sharp zoom i guess you would get away with unless you are trying to get oics of fabric weaves etc...

I've got a 55-250 and also a 100mm macro. If you are looking at posed shots then I think you can not beat the quality of the macro. But if you're looking at also going out and about, I have not been able to fault my zoom. Marvelous shots at maxed out 250mm focal length and loads more versatile. I use the zoom over the macro much more.

Good luck with whatever choice you make.

Before you spend your money, why not try with what you already have? Then you will be able to answer your own question!
