do i need 18-55mm

I've bought a Nikon 18-70mm AF lens, is it worth me buying the 18-55mm that has VR but the 18-70mm doesn't ?

So long as you do not drink too much coffee you will be fine

Seriously I do not see the point in VR in short focal length lenses, at 70mm you will be fine shooting at 1/60 or 1/100 anyway.

The 18-70 is probably better optically anyway, and thats what matters.

The 18 - 70 is one of the best camera 'kit' lenses there is, you would need to spend a lot more money to better it.

How much longer are you looking at? 70-300VR would give you a good range, especially combined with your 18-70, not a bad price either, and a pretty good lens.

Depends though what you intend photographing

the 18-55mm lens isn't that good and just because it has VR reduction doesn't make it any better, if i were you keep the 18-70 and just have steady hands
