Camera Nikon D810- Lens Nikon 24-70mm F2.8G. Tripod and target Spyderlenscal. Used a remote wired shutter release to prevent camers shake

Ok here is the problem

With the camera @70mm and f2.8 focus appears ok as shown below in the short video on the rear screen and on TV. So I take the picture and view it back as it is now on the memory card, The picture is now not in focus as shown it the second part of the video

Any ideas as i have tried to eliminate any human error. I am thinking a possible camera recalibrate. Would i be correct???

thank you

AHH think I found the problem . With the mirror locked up I cleaned the AF sensors underneath the mirror with a rocket blower and the Artric brush (not spinning) and it seems to have worked_DSC9551a.jpg_DSC9551a.jpg
Never in a month of sundays could I have done this before

You've missed the real test of course, you need to acquire another camera and lens so you can eliminate each as a factor by substitution.

I did exactly that with my Nikon D800 . Same lens same settings and no problem . so it boiled down to the camera. Also tried different mm lenths you name it I did it.
I was quite prepared to send it of for recalibration but decided to have one more look on Youtube for an answer, most were only mentioning the obvious like not having it in auto mode etc which was not what I want

Steve Perry came up with the answer in solution 2 at 2,20 minutes into the video

maybe its just me but i am dead chuffed with the edited last picture, and there was a light breeze to contend with as well, even see the "hair" on the stems
so now ordered new swabs as mine are quite old

Thanks for sharing this @realspeed - my d810 is back at nikon for repair again for inconsistent af performance. I’ll definitely be keeping note of this af sensor clean method though - that could’ve been the problem all along!

Hope it is the answer. I wonder how many cameras (D810) get sent back for cleaning because of AF sensor issues. Have to say not the easiest place to clean so I used one of these.

Gives a fighting chance to get to the AF sensor area better

replacing these now as they have had it

Just another little tip

if using a liquid for cleaning the main sensor to get rid of stubborn dirt, what I do is put a drop onto a clean work surface and dip the swap into it. That way you don't swamp the swab with too much fluid

Ok it has been cropped but I still can't get over the improvement doing that auto focus clean. it is like having a new camera and lens. Even the little bug shows up which I didn't see just to right of flower centre.
