Hi :) I always shoot in RAW and save them as a DNG file when downloading theminto my computer, but, can anyone tell me how i can see what they are ( like a JPEG ) without having to open them up in CS3 everytime to find out?

View them in bridge.

Okay, i knew that, but if i save my downloaded images to a folder in My Pictures and then open that folder up for viewing, all i see is the thumbnails with the DNG icon on it ,unlike JPEGs. Do i have to open up Bridge?

To view DNG files you will either need to use Bridge or Lightroom afaik.

Ermmmmm............i`m outta my depth now being an IT ignoramous...........:D

I seem to recall someone on here saying that you could downlaod a plug in to view raw files in windows, try a search.......

Microsoft does have a plugin to view raws in explore but I think it only works in XP as I can't getting it working with Vista.

I've never saved any RAW files in DNG format, and kepp them in Nikon's NEF format.
These files can be viewed on your PC with Google Picasa.

You can download Faststone Image Viewer and apart from viewing all types of files... you can do all sorts of resizing, converting etc in there.

I use Adobe DNG Convertor to convert RAW to DNG and I can view them in explorer on a vista machine no problem.
I dont recall installing any other plugins either, but I do have CS3, Canon DPP and lightroom 2 installed which may have stuck something in there on the quiet.
