Thanks Tomy - Rob - i struggled a little as the finger in question is my shutter finger on my right hand :shake: so i had to hold the camera in my left hand and hit the shutter button -

Lee the frost bite look is the effect a blues filter has on blood during the BW conversion - the full colour version is a bit tooo much for the forum :eek:

WEEK 4 - Street - Cornish Style

Well theres not really a lot of interesting large urban area's around near me (thankfully :D) for street, this was taken at Watergate Bay, the home of Jamie Olivers 'Fifteen' and its a well known beach for surfing , kiting and generally just chilling out.

Certainly has a calming, relaxing feel to this photo, very nice indeed.
I like the way you've managed to captured them all, about to put their right foot forward. :thumbs:
Haven't surfed myself but looking at those waves,
they should be chilling with a drink or two. :cool:
 
Good god they must be mad, it's bloody freezing. I used to do a bit of surfing a little bit up the coast, crantock bay one over from Fistral.

I really like this, it's the sort of thing you'd see on a poster somewhere, the only thing to make it better for me would have been a brighter sun/sunrise but at this time of year I think it's going to look cold regardless of what you do.

Excellent interpretation, thumbs up from me.

Needs the theme from Reservoir Dogs in the background. Crazy people but very nice image. Certainly the sort of street I'd like to live down.

Oooh. Takes me back to my childhood holidays spent in Newquay.
Looks far nicer then the weather probably delivered too. Is there an 'after' - would love to see their faces on the way back out.

Thanks - I fish at crantock for bass sometimes and its a loverly beak for kids in the summer.

Well that's annoying... I haven't seen any of your shots until today and suddenly they're all among my favourite shots for each week, not a single predictable shot among them yet all fitting the theme (ok the surfers one, while a great shot, may need a slight crowbar).

I'd have to agree with some of the above that you can go too far for your art as shown in the chopped image!
 
4 Cracking shots! Ouch on the chopped one! Looks painful :eek:. And that's as good as any street shot I've seen! Just because it's on a beach doesn't mean it's not street, eh!
 
Not sure about street... street meaning strata... sand isn't really like that ;), but...

I really like it, excellent capture and spot on timing too.

Thanks .....i'm going to try and put a selection of beach / surf / kiting shots together this year - this may be the first.

week 5 - Speed.

Had trouble with this one thought of all the usual ones like cars,trains speed bumps etc but i managed to get this today after we had lunch at the Watering Hole on the beach at Perranporth (Good Beer and good food :D).

Now that is SPEED :D I like the wide shot capturing the waves and the surfer. Is it your pup?
 
I can't quite decide if the horizon is dead straight, I suspect it may be ever so slightly off, and I just wonder if a different crop with just a little less space below and in front of the dog would balance the composition even more?

However that is a very nice subtle interpretation of the theme, something different and a very nice shot indeed.

Thanks Scott - No the dog was someone else's , and it was having great fun being chased around by its owner :D

Thanks Ian - i tried 3 or 4 different crops but settled for this with the surfer and the dog both on thirds, the crop you mention was the first i tried but i felt it left the dog nowhere to go, but the balance did look better . As for the horizon i tried to use the dog / surfer to align the shot as i think the waves breaking in the background are causing a bit of a illusion :thinking:
 
I like the speed shot. I've been to the Watering Hole a few times, it's great :)

Part of me wants to see a more traditional composition with the dog on the left third to give him more room to run into . . . but this really does work well as it is.
It's the surfer in the background that makes it IMO . . . almost enhances the dog's speed, as if he's racing further ahead of the surfer.

Lovely layers of colour again with the sand, sea and reflections. The horizon does look a bit off to me, but I think it needs to be otherwise the dog would look like he was running downhill.
 
Excellent Paul, the dog appears to be fairly flying and the composition works really well... I think it looks a little wonky too, but it fits for the dog.

Week 6 - Present


I'm a bit behind at the moment - new job etc ..... so here's a bit of a cop out really :p

Week 7 - People

Back to Watergatebay for this one, went to try a new lens and get a picture for week 7.

Two people lost in their own love oblivious to there surroundings.

500mm on FF is still not long enough for surfing pictures so it looks like I'm going to have to get in the water if i want good images without cropping.

Now that Present shot is just showing off :clap:

Do we see a slight beech theme to your 52 ;), I wonder how many more themes you can fit around the beech. I hoped you offered them the chance to buy that shot I'm sure they would have loved it. It's a very well capture intimate shot and I love the dog having fun as well.

Thanks Scott - There is a bit of a beach theme starting, and going to the beach is easier to sell to the wife and the little un ;). the dogs actually another surfer waiting for a wave :lol:
