Hi all, anybody here know much about dj software ?

All the software I have seen is for live djing on the fly. What I am looking for is a way to create a mix not on the fly, But one where can edit the mix such as changing where I cue the song in? Is there such a thing without going into software like ableton?

Ableton is the best there is, yes it's centred more around the live element, but you don't have to use it live. You can create mixes, cueing/cutting/fading where you want within the mix. Why do you need to go with anything else?

Hi Rich - because its bloomin expensive! Is there a more stripped down sequencer you know of?

Traktor

/thread.

Have you looked at FL Studio?

Rich - i shall take a look.

Was hoping there maybe some software that will allow a user to just do some simple mixing. IE a nice simple interface that can mimic the simplicity of mixing a few decks, you simply choose where the tracks start and how you cross fade.

PS i miss my decks.......:(

Virtual DJ sounds like it could be what you need in that case. Basic but does all of the above .

I miss mine too, and djing the club scene. I took photography up when I packed it in and it's replaced it slightly but not fully...... Still involves going out late at night or early morning for a few hours

There's some decent USB interfaces you can buy cheap. Much better than doing it all on screen. They take up very little space and can be packed away easily. I had the traktor S2 but there's much cheaper out there like newmark or Gemini.

I use Traktor for mixing and Ableton for producing

PCDJ could be what you are after, but it is mostly for on the fly mixing like Traktor or Serato.

:-)

You used to get cut down versions of Ableton with sound cards and stuff, and IIRC it just limited the number of vertical channels you could use, but not the number of sample holders, so it should be OK for mixing any number of tunes with just 2 or 4 channels. May be worth checking if any of these versions are still available.
