Dizzy - My 52!! 52.26 Night

thank you

When i was told this weeks theme my initial reaction was, b****r. After a day or so of feeling clueless the ideas began to flow. Thankfully! Unfortunately, most of my ideas would have needed flash or studio lights that I don't have. I enlisted the help of Marcus, our friends little super star and a fun game of peek-a-boo! I new I'd have an issue with noise shooting indoors with bumped up iso, but think it just about escapes in mono. Don't tell anyone, but it was always going to be in mono anyway!!!

So... 52.4 Surprise - Peek-a-boo!!

That is such a natural and sweet picture, the sheer joy on Marcus's face is fantastic :)

Takes me back a few years that does and the B&W suits it! Not noisy at all! :)

And spot on the theme :D

thanks, John. very kind! So much for never working with animals or children, I'd have been in trouble in the last 2 weeks without them..

Thanks, good job I didn't see anywhere selling kinder eggs out here!!

Thanks marc. You wouldn't believe how much we miss proper English chocolate! Oh, and proper gravy!

LOL just don't get me started on baked beans. There's a British store here that sells them, about 2 quid a can! A small bottle of ribena is 9 bucks. Americans don't do cordials...

9 bucks for a small bottle of Ribena? I'm assuming Americans are too into their "Sodas".

You assume correctly! That and huge quantities of processed fruit juices. Strange folk!!

You can be fairly certain that anything you buy from a supermarket has half a bag of sugar added to it! No wonder I've put on over a stone since I got here...

LOL! I just need to work out a way of emigrating to the gym 4 times a week without leaving the house...

Very well done indeed. Liking that shot

Thanks very much guys, very kind!

This is a really nice take on the theme and looks great in B&W

Thanks. I think there are a few things that are coming out of this project that are really pleasing.
1. I'm starting to visualize exactly what the shot will be before I even leave the house.
2. It's making me think much about the set up, light and processing but it's much easier as I've a definite picture of what I'm trying to capture.
3. I'm making a conscious effort to use the camera properly. It's getting to the stage where I'm almost totallyin manual now so that's pretty pleasing!

Just hope there's some easier themes on the horizon now...

I like week four it reminds of playing peek-a-boo with my kids when they were younger, babies just love it, they can go for hours:)

I agree about the things you've learnt, this challenge is really making me think about the creative side a photography, which I hope will improve all of my images over the year.

That is a lovely shot, you've really caught the moment there. That is a really great shot you've got and one that is very wall worthy. Do you have any from the front (from the bear's point of view)?

It looks from your latter post you are really gaining out of this challenge and it's always good to do what you are doing and pre-visualise the image and aim to get it. However, be careful that you keep your mind open to things that may flow from your original idea. The fact you are thinking about your settings will always help

The peek-a-boo shot is great! but the hand attracts my attention too much. Still, its an awesome shot and i wish i had kids to do that with!! lol

What a cute little chap. :) You've caught a lovely expression and I like the mono treatment. I bet his eyes are beautiful and it would be nice to see a bit more of his face. I know that's easier said than done - babies have their own agendas and it doesn't include helping the photographer.

btw - teddy looks surprised too. :)

Jean

Thanks for all the kind comments and pointers guys

Lovely shot...works so well in B&W...:clap::clap:

Nice name by the way...I've not found many of us Marcus's around...;)

Love that expression and the DoF brings out the subjects. Great shot.:thumbs:

Thanks guys, I think most of the credit for this one should go to marcus, he's such a cutie!

Magical shot, although I agree the hand is slightly distracting.

Needs captions!

lol, I don't think he's managed any words yet...

What a great expression you've captured on Marcus's face. The B&W conversion really sets it off.:clap:

This challenge is having exactly the same effect on my life too and causing me to do this :bang: sometimes too. Great interpretation of the theme.

thanks Bruja. I've had a shocking week with leaving the house before 5am and not getting back until 4-5pm on a 7 day stint and the creative juices were not flowing what so ever!! I did have a few ideas on the way home today for this weeks, so hopefully I'll get it sorted tomorrow or saturday. I hope...

I'm in a quandry. I had four images in mind for this week. One is very dangerous in respect to leaving me in an area where I'm likely to be looking at the wrong end of a gun barrel or a knife if someone notices me with an expensive camera. The second requires studio lights or a flash that I don't have. The third I think I may have in the camera, but I haven't put them on the pc to see yet. Fourth has been done in a similar, but not identical way by a fellow 52er. Question is, should I go for my third favourite idea or go for something else??

52.5 - Opposites. Well, I had quite a few ideas for this weeks theme and I'd still like to do some of the others but times been against me this week. I wanted to think a little laterally this week and enlisted the help of a couple of guys from my Section to be opposite sides of the argument! I would have liked a few more shots but we have been maxed out this week so this was literally 60 seconds in the howling, bone chilling, wind before we had to get back to the grindstone.

Extremely well posed and shot (and thought out as well) - it has a real photo journalistic feel and looks 100% genuine to me rather than posed!

Splendid treatment of the subject this week David!

Excellent interpretation for this weeks subject...

Looks a little too real..:naughty:

Hope they had a nice cup of tea and talked over the problem..

The opposites are great for me...big guy picking on smaller guy, I even like the one finger from smaller guy...and two from other guy. The OOF background works a treat...and make you want to know where the location would be, and of course what are the uniforms for?

Great interpretation and I like the gritty feel of it
Jon
