DIY Softbox?

Anybody made an easy/cheap DIY softbox before? Saw one made from a lampshade online somewhere thought might work. What would you use as the diffusion material on the front (and inside maybe) though? And how to fix it to the flash gun head? (580EXII)

Would it really be worth the effort and possible expense of buying the bits required when compared to this?

I have not used this particular one but surely it would be as/more effective than a home made job?

Have seen it done with a box lined with foil and a thin bed sheet as the diffuser with good results.

Exactly, in fact that's basically the same as the one I got from someone on here and I haven't looked back Mine has another small diffuser inside too, not sure if that ebay one has or not but I love my softbox!

I really don't think it's worth the hassle to make one of your own when you can buy one so cheap. It will also look more professional.

Of course if you really wanted to DiY, it'd be quite simple to buy a large silver umbrella, 2 zips and a shower curtain and make a DiY Octobox(ish) for less than a tenner.

But lining a box with foil etc and ending up with something that looks crap and you can't fold down to put away, that's just mad.
